Job summary

Fairview Health Services is seeking a Nursing Assistant for M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN. This evening shift covers 8-hour shifts, totaling 56 hours biweekly, with every other weekend. The position offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and more.

The unit is Med/Surg Medical with a team-focused culture, emphasizing patient- and family-centered care. You will support RNs and nursing staff, maintain patient rooms, and contribute to high-quality care

Qualifications

• BLS certification required for Healthcare Providers.
• OnTrack Nursing Assistant training or Fairview-sponsored program.
• Six months of direct care experience in long-term, home, or acute care settings.
• Current enrollment in an LPN/RN program or one semester of clinical rotation.
• Current Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry certification on hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist the professional nurse in delivering patient care and transporting patients and equipment.
• Set up and maintain patient rooms and stock supplies; follow unit protocols.
• Document tasks accurately on the appropriate forms and electronic systems.
• Monitor patient condition and report any unusual findings to the RN promptly.
• Assist with admissions, transfers, discharges, and orientation of patients and families.

Job Overview

Fairview is looking for a Nursing Assistant at the M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN! This position is 56 hours per two weeks on the Eveningshift, for 8 hour shifts, and every other weekend, and is eligible for benefits such as medical, dental, and more.

About this Unit:

Med/Surg Medical at M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital is a high-volume, 32-bed medical unit with 18 telemetry beds, known for its exceptional teamwork, strong communication, and supportive culture. The care team—including RNs, Nursing Assistants, and Nursing Station Technicians—manages a diverse adult patient population, from respiratory and GI conditions to infectious diseases and substance use disorders. With a focus on professional development and patient- and family-centered care, Med/Surg Medical offers a dynamic and rewarding environment for both new and experienced clinical staff.

Job Expectations:

The Nursing Assistant is responsible for assisting the professional nurse/caregiver in the delivery of patient care, transporting patient and/or equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, and the reordering and stocking of supplies. The Nursing Assistant does not work autonomously but works under the direction of a professional nurse. The Nursing Assistant may be given a patient care assignment based on unit needs and the discretion of the manager/charge nurse.

Provides basic patient care by performing routine duties to include:

• Personal grooming, bathing, toileting, Feeding,
• Skin care needs (clean and sterile dressing changes), applying ointments/creams,
• Oral hygiene,
• Specimen collection/testing,
• Position/ambulating,
• Changing linens,
• Promptly answers call lights.

Assists the nurse in monitoring patient condition.

• Accurately takes and records weights, input/output, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rates, respiration, oxygen saturation.
• Places patient on/off monitors or equipment.
• Reports unusual findings to the RN in a timely manner.

Assists with admissions, transfers, and discharge of patients.

• Orients patient and their family to the environment.
• Assures the patient’s belongings are accounted for, documented upon admission, transfer and discharge.

Transports patients, equipment, specimen and supplies.

• Assures patients get to appointments on time.
• Uses transfer belt when assisting patients with transfers and/or ambulation.

Cleans sets up, and maintains rooms and equipment.

• Orders and stocks supplies.

Accurately documents tasks performed on appropriate form.

Performs other tasks as needed.

Required Qualifications:

License/Certification/Registration

• Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required. Ontrack participants much be able to obtain Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.

AND ONE or more of the following:

• Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview sponsored Nursing Assistant program.

Or

• Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting. (Appropriate roles may include, Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician)

Or

• Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program.

Or

• Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire. This requirement does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech or Nursing Station Attendant position.
