Job summary

Fairview Health Services in Burnsville is seeking a Nursing Assistant for the 5th floor Med-Surg Oncology (MS5) unit. You will support professional nurses in delivering patient care, transport patients and supplies, and help maintain rooms and equipment.

This on-site role requires completing Fairview's OnTrack CNA training or having CNA credentials, BLS, and relevant direct-care experience or active enrollment in an approved nursing program.

Qualifications

• BLS certification required; able to obtain if not yet current.
• Completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant or a Fairview-sponsored CNA program.
• Six months of direct care experience in a long-term, home care, or acute care setting or current enrollment in a nursing program.

Responsibilities

• Assist professional nurse/caregiver in delivery of patient care and transport.
• Set up and maintain patient rooms; stock supplies and reorder as needed.
• Record patient data (weights, I/O, vitals) and report changes to RN.
• Assist with admissions, transfers, and discharge; orient patients and families.

Job description

Job Overview

Fairview is looking for a Nursing Assistant at our Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, on the 5th floor Med-Surg Oncology (MS5) unit.

Schedule

This position is a .75 FTE (60 hours per 2-week pay period) working 12-hour night shifts, with every third weekend rotation (Fri,Sat,Sun).

Responsibilities

The Nursing Assistant is responsible for assisting the professional nurse/caregiver in the delivery of patient care, transporting patient and/or equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, and the reordering and stocking of supplies. The Nursing Assistant does not work autonomously but works under the direction of a professional nurse. The Nursing Assistant may be given a patient care assignment based on unit needs and the discretion of the manager/charge nurse.

• Provides basic patient care by performing routine duties to include:
  • Partners with patient care giver in care/decision making.
  • Personal grooming, bathing, toileting,
  • Feeding,
  • Skin care needs (clean and sterile dressing changes), applying ointments/creams,
  • Oral hygiene,
  • Specimen collection/testing,
  • Position/ambulating,
  • Changing linens,
• Promptly answers call lights.
• Assists nurse in monitoring patient condition.
• Accurately takes and records weights, input/output, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rates, respiration, oxygen saturation.
• Places patient on/off monitors or equipment.
• Reports unusual findings to the RN in a timely manner.
• Assists with admissions, transfers, and discharge of patients.
• Orients patient/family to environment.
• Assures the patient’s belongings are accounted for, documented upon admission, transfer and discharge.

Required Qualifications

• Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc or Red Cross) Ontrack participants much be able to obtain Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.
• AND one or more of the following:
• Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview sponsored Nursing Assistant program.
• Or
• Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting. (Appropriate roles may include, Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician)
• Or
• Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program
• Or
• Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire. This requirement does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech or Nursing Station Attendant position
