Job summary

Fairview Health Services seeks a Nursing Assistant for our Float Pool at Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, MN. The role supports patient care under RN supervision, requires BLS, and eligibility for Fairview OnTrack or similar programs.

The position is a 0.9 FTE night-shift role with weekend rotation, offering comprehensive benefits and opportunities for professional growth within a major health system.

Qualifications

• Current Basic Life Support certification (American Heart Association or Red Cross).
• Completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training or similar Fairview program.
• Six months of direct care experience in long-term, home, or acute care settings.
• Enrollment in an LPN/RN/NP program with clinical rotation completed.

Responsibilities

• Assist licensed nurse in delivering patient care.
• Transport patients and equipment as needed.
• Set up and maintain patient rooms; reorder and stock supplies.
• Provide routine patient care tasks (bathing, grooming, feeding, hygiene).
• Record weights, intake/output, vital signs, and use monitors as directed.
• Assist with admissions, transfers, and discharges.
• Orient patients and families to the environment and belongings.

Job description

Job Overview

Ridges Hospital is looking for a passionate and hardworking Nursing Assistant to join our Float Pool unit! Located in Burnsville, just 20 minutes south of Minneapolis, MN, near the 35 E and 35 W conjunctions.

Schedule

This position is a .9 FTE (72 hours per 2-week pay period) working 12-hour night shifts, with every third weekend rotation (Fri,Sat,Sun).

Responsibilities

The Nursing Assistant is responsible for assisting the professional nurse/caregiver in the delivery of patient care, transporting patient and/or equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, and the reordering and stocking of supplies. The Nursing Assistant does not work autonomously but works under the direction of a professional nurse. The Nursing Assistant may be given a patient care assignment based on unit needs and the discretion of the manager/charge nurse.

• Provides basic patient care by performing routine duties to include:
  • Partners with patient care giver in care/decision making.
  • Personal grooming, bathing, toileting,
  • Feeding,
  • Skin care needs (clean and sterile dressing changes), applying ointments/creams,
  • Oral hygiene,
  • Specimen collection/testing,
  • Position/ambulating,
  • Changing linens,
  • Promptly answers call lights.
• Assists nurse in monitoring patient condition.
  • Accurately takes and records weights, input/output, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rates, respiration, oxygen saturation.
  • Places patient on/off monitors or equipment.
  • Reports unusual findings to the RN in a timely manner.
• Assists with admissions, transfers, and discharge of patients.
  • Orients patient/family to environment.
  • Assures the patient’s belongings are accounted for, documented upon admission, transfer and discharge.

Required Qualifications

• Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc or Red Cross) Ontrack participants much be able to obtain Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.
• AND at least one of the following:
• Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview sponsored Nursing Assistant program.
• Or
• Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting. (Appropriate roles may include, Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician)
• Or
• Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program
• Or
• Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire. This requirement does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech or Nursing Station Attendant position
