Summary:

• Provides service-oriented patient care under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse. Performs duties that support the operation of the nursing unit.

Responsibilities:

• Provides age-appropriate care for the patient population served.
• Uses appropriate resources for patients with special needs.
• Integrates principles of infection prevention into practice.
• Responsible for stocking all patient care rooms and closets at the beginning of the shift and ordering necessary supplies.
• Checks the blanket/fluid warmer outside the OR for outdated materials, stocks with blankets, sheets, gowns, dates solutions, and records warmer temperature.
• Docks Neptune and restocks cartridges.
• Brings a bed from Mother Baby and places it outside the OR for C/Section.
• Maintains equipment room: ensures equipment is clean and organized, and all monitors, instruments, and balls are cleaned and bagged.
• Stocks and prepares vaginal delivery table.
• After delivery: makes an icepack, provides beverages as requested, brings infant scale to room, removes delivery table, and delivers used instruments to Sterile Processing.
• Picks up sterile supplies from Sterile Processing.
• Additional responsibilities include ensuring the soiled utility room is clean and orderly, maintaining the placenta refrigerator, discarding placentas after 7 days, and taking placentas to the lab to restock Formalin.
• Secures HUGS tags and stocks baby cribs.
• Opens OR for C-section utilizing sterile technique.
• Assists nursing staff with vital signs, fetal monitor, and bedside glucose monitoring as directed by RN.
• Assists with entering lab results into PENN chart.

Credentials:

• Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)
• Certified Nurse Aid
• Certified Nursing Assistant

Education or Equivalent Experience:

• H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
• Equivalent experience and training or hospital-based clinical experience as a student nurse.
