Job Description - Nursing Assistant I/II CACU Full Time Evenings (2501869)

Position Summary

At Stony Brook Medicine, our Nursing Assistants are valuable members of our team, providing empathic care to our patients, their families, and visitors, with the highest integrity and respect. Under the supervision of an RN, Nursing Assistants communicate face-to-face with patients and visitors to convey treatment information and visiting hours. They also support and encourage patients who may be despondent or apprehensive.

Qualified candidates will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a solid understanding of patient care, and the ability to adapt to changing patient needs, making decisions based on ethical principles and maintaining high standards of excellence.

Responsibilities
  1. Change simple dressings, administer enemas, douches, and irrigations as directed.
  2. Apply hot/cold packs, ice bags, and other comfort measures as directed.
  3. Chart and document care and behaviors accurately.
  4. Measure vital signs such as temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and respiration.
  5. Assist with daily living activities and personal hygiene to ensure a comfortable and conducive environment for treatment.
  6. Assist patients with feeding to ensure proper nutrition.
  7. Support bathing, dressing, oral hygiene, and nail care.
  8. Respect patients' rights, dignity, and confidentiality.
  9. Perform housekeeping duties related to patient care to maintain a clean and sanitary environment.
Qualifications

Possess or be able to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities during the probationary period.

One year of satisfactory full-time experience in patient care services under professional supervision.

Preferred
  • NYS Certified Nursing Assistant license or certification from an approved training program.
  • One year of patient care experience.
  • High School Diploma or GED.

Compensation
