Nursing Assistant I/II 18N Hospital Observation Unit Full Time Nights

Position Summary

At Stony Brook Medicine, our Nursing Assistants are valuable members of our team, providing empathic care to our patients, their families, and visitors, with the highest degree of integrity and respect. Under the supervision of an RN, Nursing Assistants communicate face-to-face with patients and visitors to convey information on treatment procedures and visiting hours. They also support and encourage patients who may be despondent or apprehensive.

Qualified candidates will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, knowledge of patient care, and the ability to respond effectively to changing patient needs by making ethical decisions and maintaining high standards of excellence.

Responsibilities
  • Change simple dressings, administer enemas, douches, and irrigations as directed.
  • Apply hot/cold packs and compresses as directed.
  • Chart and document care and behaviors as required.
  • Measure vital signs such as temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and respiration.
  • Assist with daily living activities to maintain a comfortable environment conducive to treatment.
  • Assist patients with feeding to ensure proper nourishment.
  • Help with bathing, dressing, oral hygiene, and nail trimming.
  • Respect patient rights, dignity, and confidentiality.
  • Perform housekeeping duties related to patient care to ensure a clean and sanitary environment.
Qualifications

Possess or be able to acquire necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities during the probationary period.

One year of satisfactory full-time experience in providing simple treatment and patient care services under supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

NYS Certified Nursing Assistant license or certification from an approved training program, one year of patient care experience, and a High School Diploma or GED.

Compensation

The salary range is $46,807 - $50,966 per year, based on experience and shift. Additional pay may include location pay ($4000), shift differential ($575), and geographic pay. Benefits include leave, health plans, and a state pension.
