Job Description - Nursing Assistant I/II 18N Hosp Observation Unit Part Time Nights (2500426)

Position Summary

At Stony Brook Medicine, our Nursing Assistants are valuable members of our team, providing empathic care to our patients, their families, and visitors, with the highest degree of integrity and respect. Under the supervision of an RN, Nursing Assistants have frequent face-to-face communication with persons in care and their visitors to convey information on treatment procedures and visitors' hours. They also encourage and support those who may be despondent or apprehensive.

Qualified candidates will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, knowledge of patient care, and the ability to respond effectively to changing patient needs by making decisions based on ethical principles and adhering to our high standards of excellence.

Duties of a Nursing Assistant may include but are not limited to:

  • Change simple dressings as directed, give enemas, douches, and irrigations as directed.
  • Apply hot water bottles, aqua K pads, ice bags, and coolers, and hot and cold compresses as directed.
  • Chart and document care and behaviors as required.
  • Take temperatures, pulse rates, blood pressure, and respiration rates.
  • Attend to daily living activities, personal hygiene, and basic human needs to maintain a comfortable and conducive environment for treatment.
  • Assist with feeding individuals requiring help to ensure proper nourishment.
  • Bathe, dress, brush teeth, and trim fingernails and toenails of persons in care.
  • Maintain persons' rights, dignity, and confidentiality.
  • Perform housekeeping and cleaning duties related to direct care as needed to keep the facility clean, sanitary, and well-stocked.

Qualifications

Required: One year of satisfactory full-time experience in providing simple treatment and patient care services under professional supervision.

Preferred: NYS Certified Nursing Assistant license or certification from an approved training program, one year of patient care experience, and a High School Diploma or GED.

  • Location pay for UUP, CSEA & PEF full-time positions ($3400)
