Job Description - Nursing Assistant I/II 17N Surge Onc Part Time Evening (2500413)

Position Summary

At Stony Brook Medicine, our Nursing Assistants are valuable members of our team, providing empathic care to our patients, their families, and visitors, with the highest integrity and respect. Under the supervision of an RN, Nursing Assistants communicate frequently with patients and visitors to convey treatment information and visiting hours. They also support patients who may be despondent or apprehensive.

Qualified candidates will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a strong understanding of patient care, and the ability to respond effectively to changing patient needs by making ethical decisions and adhering to high standards of excellence.

Duties of a Nursing Assistant may include but are not limited to:

  • Change dressings, give enemas, douches, and irrigations as directed.
  • Apply hot/cold packs and compresses as directed.
  • Chart and document care and behaviors as required.
  • Take vital signs such as temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and respiration.
  • Assist with daily living activities, personal hygiene, and basic needs to maintain a comfortable environment.
  • Assist with feeding patients requiring help to ensure proper nourishment.
  • Bathe, dress, and perform personal grooming for patients.
  • Maintain patients' rights, dignity, and confidentiality.
  • Perform housekeeping duties related to patient care, ensuring a clean and sanitary environment.

Qualifications

Possess or be able to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities during the probationary period. One year of satisfactory full-time experience in providing simple treatment and patient care services under supervision is required.

Preferred: NYS Certified Nursing Assistant license or certification from an approved training program, one year of patient care experience, and a High School Diploma or GED.

The salary range for this position is $xxx - $xxx per year. The specific offer will depend on experience. The range is a good faith estimate at the time of posting.
