Job Description - Nursing Assistant I/II 12S Med/Tele Part Time Nights (2501903)

Position Summary

At Stony Brook Medicine, our Nursing Assistants are valuable members of our team, providing empathic care to patients, their families, and visitors, with the highest degree of integrity and respect. Under the supervision of an RN, Nursing Assistants communicate face-to-face with patients and visitors to convey treatment information and visiting hours. They also support and encourage those who may be despondent or apprehensive.

Qualified candidates will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, knowledge of patient care, and the ability to respond effectively to changing patient needs by making ethical decisions and maintaining high standards of excellence.

Duties of a Nursing Assistant may include:

  • Changing simple dressings, administering enemas, douches, and irrigations as directed.
  • Applying hot/cold packs, ice bags, and coolers as directed.
  • Charting and documenting care and behaviors.
  • Measuring vital signs such as temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and respiration.
  • Assisting with daily living activities and personal hygiene to ensure a comfortable and treatment-conducive environment.
  • Feeding patients requiring assistance to ensure proper nourishment.
  • Bathing, dressing, and maintaining personal hygiene of patients.
  • Respecting patient rights, dignity, and confidentiality.
  • Performing housekeeping and cleaning duties related to patient care to maintain a sanitary environment.

Qualifications

Possession of or ability to acquire required knowledge, skills, and abilities during the probationary period.

At least one year of satisfactory full-time experience in providing simple treatment and patient care services under supervision.

Preferred: NYS Certified Nursing Assistant license or certification from an approved training program, one year of patient care experience, and a High School Diploma or GED.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The salary range for this position is $42,232 - $46,391 per year, prorated based on FTE. Specific offers depend on experience and qualifications.

Additional compensation may include location pay, shift differentials, and geographic pay, among others.

Your total compensation includes generous benefits such as leave, health plans, and a pension.
