Schedule: 36hrs/week, 7PM-7:30AM

The Cardiology Intensive Care Unit (CICU)/Progressive Care Unit (PCU) is a 24-bed unit in the HUP Pavilion. Staff are trained to care for both CICU and PCU patients, splitting their time between the two after orientation.

We manage complex cardiac conditions including cardiogenic shock, arrhythmias, myocardial infarction, heart failure, congenital heart disease, postpartum cardiomyopathy, pulmonary hypertension, and acute coronary syndrome. The unit is equipped for advanced hemodynamic monitoring and interventions such as central venous, arterial, pulmonary artery catheters, mechanical ventilation, IABP therapy, CRRT, TTM, VADs, and Impellas.

Primarily a medical cardiology unit, we care for patients pre- and post-VAD implantation, before organ transplants, and during recurrent admissions, separate from postoperative cardiothoracic/vascular surgery. We also care for patients undergoing cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology studies, and minimally invasive procedures. Apply now!

Summary
  • The Nursing Assistant supports patient care by collecting and reporting data, working under supervision of Nurse Practitioners and Registered Nurses.
Responsibilities
  • Prepares exam rooms, maintains supplies, and manages inventory to ensure ongoing patient care.
  • Assists with data collection (vital signs, height, weight, blood sugar, functional status) and communicates changes to RN or CRNP.
  • Provides patient and family information for care coordination.
  • Retrieves and secures supplies, delivers patient-specific items.
  • Maintains a safe environment, observing for fall risk, confusion, or disorientation.
  • Participates in staff meetings and performs quality control on tests.
  • Assists with physical exams, documents findings in EMR, and evaluates nursing care progress.
Credentials
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)
  • Certified Nurse Aid (Required)
  • CNA Certification by Pennsylvania
Education or Experience
  • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
