Job summary

UCI Health in Orange County seeks an Emergency Department Nursing Assistant to support nursing staff by performing patient care tasks, vital signs, and essential routine duties. You will assist with hygiene, monitor patient conditions, and help maintain a safe, clean ED environment.

Requirements include basic medical terminology, ability to work nights/weekends/holidays, and a CNA/LVN or active nursing program enrollment with clinical experience. BLS is required on hire.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of basic medical terminology.
  • Shift flexibility including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Able to read, write and speak English effectively.
  • Certified Nurses Assistant, Licensed Vocational Nurse, or enrolled in accredited nursing program with at least 1 clinical semester.
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively in a therapeutic way.
  • Demonstrated patient care experience, preferably in an acute care setting.
  • BLS certification upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Take and record vital signs, blood sugar, and Hemacue readings.
  • Assist with hygiene, elimination, and patient comfort.
  • Perform EKGs and maintain a clean and safe unit environment.
  • Stock and set up equipment and supplies; operate hospital equipment as directed.
  • Provide routine administrative tasks and assist with related duties.

Your Role on the Team
Position Summary

The Emergency Department Nursing Assistant aids professional and technical nursing personnel primarily by accomplishing a variety of duties and procedures which are directly related to patient care. Primary duties include taking and recording vital signs, blood sugar, and Hemacue readings, assisting patients with hygiene and elimination, performing EKGs and maintaining a clean and safe unit environment. Will assist with stocking and set-up of equipment and supplies, operating hospital equipment as directed, performing routine administrative tasks, and assisting with other related duties as assigned.

  • Understanding of basic medical terminology
  • Must be able to work variable shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Must be able to read, write and speak effectively in English
  • Must be Certified Nurses Assist., Licensed Vocational Nurse, or enrolled in accredited nursing prog. with completion of at least 1 clinical semester.
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively in a therapeutic way
  • Demonstrated patient care experience, preferably in an acute care setting
  • BLS certification upon hire
