Job Summary

Wellstar North Fulton Hospital has an opportunity for a Nursing Assistant - Care Partner in MedSurg-Surgical. Part-Time Day Shift (Two days per week)

The Care Partner is a support care provider who functions under the direction of the Registered Nurse. The Care Partner's primary focus will be to promote a positive patient experience by partnering with the nurse, physician, healthcare team, and other healthcare providers to provide excellence in patient experience; and assist with daily living activities and comfort measures. The Care Partner assists other healthcare providers with safe, age-appropriate, and culturally aware care by performing basic patient care functions such as ADL's, ambulation, and vital signs.

The Care Partner may require approved advanced technical training skills, such as phlebotomy, simple treatments, dressing changes, oral suctioning, and discontinuing Foley catheters. Performing additional advanced skills may be required to support clinical care and will fluctuate depending on the needs of the unit. Clerical functions such as data retrieval, maintaining unit supplies, and transporting supplies/patient medications will also be required. The Care Partner must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task effectively, and communicate efficiently with the Registered Nurse and the healthcare team. Must perform under stressful conditions with compassion, respect, and a service mindset. Ability to take direction from various care providers and stay organized with excellent communication skills is essential.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions

  • Provide excellence in patient experience by partnering with healthcare team, patient, and family.
  • Support patient-centered clinical care by addressing patient needs, following the plan of care, and engaging patients and families in the treatment process.
  • Contribute to the care plan and safety interventions to minimize risks.
  • Maintain patient rights and dignity, confidentiality, and privacy per HIPAA regulations.
  • Participate in hourly patient rounds and respond promptly to calls and concerns.
  • Assist with patient care under RN supervision, including hygiene, nutrition, elimination, and comfort measures, and perform advanced skills as required.
  • Support care delivery, assist with admissions, monitor safety data, and participate in team activities like charge reconciliation and audits.
  • Support team initiatives and professional nursing practices.
  • Transport supplies, medications, and equipment as needed.
  • Communicate effectively using techniques like AIDET and chain of command, and document care in EMR accurately.
  • Maintain equipment and update patient information on whiteboards.
  • Ensure safety and infection control by following proper hygiene, PPE policies, and environmental rounds.

Minimum Education Requirements

High school diploma or GED required. Graduation from a state-approved CNA or Patient Care Tech program is preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant certification preferred.

Minimum Skills

  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Minimum age of 16 years.
