Job summary

The Louisiana Veterans Homes is seeking compassionate Nursing Assistants to assist with patient care, document admissions, and maintain accurate medical records for veterans in its care. The role includes assisting with ambulation, feeding, bathing, positioning, and lifting, as well as sterilizing equipment and recording vital signs.

Appointment is full-time, probationary, with schedules from 6:00 AM–6:30 PM or 6:00 PM–6:30 AM and alternate weekends.

Qualifications

• Six months of experience or training in patient care.
• Possession of a current Certified Nursing Assistant certificate.
• Completion of an accredited Registered Nursing, Practical Nursing, Medical Assistant, or Emergency Medical Technician Program.

• Assist with documenting the admission of new patients into the medical record.
• Provide care to patients such as ambulating, feeding, bathing, positioning, and lifting.
• Sterilize equipment and supplies.
• Measure temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, height, and weight; record in the patient's medical record.

About This Job

The mission of the Louisiana Veterans Homes is to primarily serve the veteran population of Louisiana by providing medical, restorative, and rehabilitative services in an atmosphere of respect and compassion. The primary objective of the home is to provide quality nursing care to eligible veterans, with the ultimate goal of returning them to the highest possible levels of physical and mental capacity.

Minimum Qualifications

• Six months of experience or training in patient care; OR
• Possession of a current Certified Nursing Assistant certificate; OR
• Completion of an accredited Registered Nursing, Practical Nursing, Medical Assistant, or Emergency Medical Technician Program.

Note

Positions at facilities receiving certain Medicaid or Medicare funds require that applicants possess a current Certified Nursing Assistant certificate.

Position-Specific Details

Appointment Type: Full-Time Position Probational

Career Progression: As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a Nursing Assistant 1 or 2, depending on the level of experience

Work Schedule: Work hours are 6:00 AM to 6:30 PM / 6:00 PM to 6:30 AM. Alternate weekends.

Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

CNA 1 Special Entrance Rate is $13.74 hourly (base pay).

CNA 2 Special Entrance Rate is $14.70 hourly (base pay).

• Plus shifts differentials and premium pay of $3.00 per hour worked.
