Job summary

Job description

Summary

Participant Care Associate (PCA) provides supportive services to participants in their homes, community settings, day health center, and during transportation and appointments. Responsibilities are guided by each participant’s Care Plan and include promoting physical and emotional comfort, supporting independence, and maintaining accurate documentation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with personal care and activities of daily living (ADLs)
  • Help with meal preparation, feeding, toileting, and incontinence management
  • Provide simple treatments, medication reminders, laundry services, and homemaking assistance
  • Coordinate transportation and support for off‑site appointments
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation on every visit and encounter
  • Communicate participant progress and any schedule deviations to the RNCM or supervisor
  • Respond to emergencies in accordance with established policies and procedures
  • Work within the established scope of practice and maintain required competencies
Qualifications
  • H.S. diploma or GED required
  • Valid Michigan driver's license
  • Current CPR card required
  • At least one year of experience with frail or elderly populations in a long‑term care, hospital, or home care setting
  • Completion of a formal training program (Direct Care, Nurse Assistant, Medical Assistant, Patient Care Technician, etc.) outside of PACE SEMI
  • Ability to establish and maintain interpersonal and interdepartmental relationships
  • Respect for the physical, spiritual, and well‑being of participants and co‑workers
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to interpret instructions
  • Capability to work sensitively with diverse ethnic, cultural, and developmental backgrounds
  • Organizational skills to maintain flexible scheduling and coordinate responsibilities
  • Ability to perform duties in an environment with frequent interruptions
  • Compliance with competency standards approved by CMS, including skills check‑off, annual in‑service training, and written assessments
  • Medical clearance for communicable diseases and up‑to‑date immunizations before engaging in direct participant contact
Working Conditions

The PCA works in a variety of settings, including participants’ homes, community locations, day health centers, and during transportation. The role requires the ability to adapt to frequent interruptions and manage a flexible schedule while ensuring participant safety and comfort.
