Job description

Assists professional nursing staff by performing specific resident care tasks, within the scope of practice from Certified Nursing Assistant.

Education:

High school graduate or equivalent. The Nursing Assistant will be listed with the Texas Department of Health Nurse Aid Registry.

Training and Experience:

1. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the AmericanHeart Association (AHA) upon hire or transfer to the departmentrequired.
2. Successful completion of general and nursing orientation withinthree (3) months of hire.
3. Completion of the following competencies within three (3) monthsof hire or transfer to the department:
   • Unit orientation
   • Unit safety
   • Attendance requirements
   • Code Blue participation
   • Safe, effective patient care: patient identification, vital signs,inputs/outputs, personal care, bed-making, patient transfer andreporting
   • Appropriate and timely documentation
   • Effective time management, organizational and prioritizationskills
   • Technical skills including equipment use
   • Body substance isolation
   • Age specific care
   • Professional communication
   • Restraint Training
   • Practice safe handling for patients receiving chemotherapy
