Job summary

Bay Mills Community College is seeking an experienced Nursing Instructor to deliver course instruction, develop syllabi, and assess student learning in collaboration with the Assessment Coordinator. The role requires a BSN, an active RN license in Michigan, BLS/ACLS, and PALS within 3 months.

You will work with diverse students and coordinate with clinical agencies to support program excellence. The position emphasizes curriculum development, student assessment, and maintaining accurate records

Qualifications

  • Meet academic and professional qualifications per Bay Mills Community College mission
  • Current BLS and ACLS required; PALS within 3 months of hire
  • Unencumbered RN license to practice in Michigan
  • Minimum five years of direct patient care experience
  • Two to three years of teaching in maternal-child, pediatric, Medical-Surgical, or Ambulatory Care

  • Deliver nursing course instruction according to contract, syllabus, and catalog
  • Meet all scheduled classes, labs and clinics for the full allotted time
  • Develop course syllabi with measurable objectives, grading criteria, prerequisites, responsibilities, sequencing and assignments
  • Assess student mastery and provide continual feedback to students and the Assessment Coordinator
  • Maintain and submit required records by deadlines and coordinate with clinical agencies

Job description

  • Deliver and facilitate Nursing course instruction according to the contract, syllabus, and course catalog
  • Meet all scheduled classes, labs, and clinics for the full allotted time
  • Use teaching methods and media suited to students with varied educational and experiential backgrounds
  • Develop course syllabi with measurable objectives, grading criteria, prerequisites, responsibilities, sequencing, and assignments
  • Assess student mastery and provide continual feedback to students and the Assessment Coordinator
  • Maintain and submit required academic, registrar, nursing, and assessment records by deadlines
  • Implement the college’s Assessment of Student Learning Program
  • Recommend reference and instructional materials to the Director of Nursing and college library
  • Schedule and maintain on-campus hours for course planning, preparation, instruction, advising, and office hours
  • Participate in college committees, meetings, events, and other activities as requested
  • Use BMCC administrative student management software for classroom management and student advising
  • Maintain working knowledge of MOODLE
  • Support departmental recruiting efforts
  • Follow college procedures and submit documentation for absences, complaints, academic dishonesty, and related matters
  • Collaborate with the Director of Nursing on assessment and classroom-based research
  • Assist with curriculum development and refinement
  • Maintain working relationships with clinical agencies
Requirements
  • Meet academic and professional qualifications and support Bay Mills Community College’s mission and objectives
  • Advanced word processing and computer skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Understanding of collegiate student and course management systems preferred
  • Commitment to tribal college teaching, learning, high academic standards, and student success
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, State Board of Nursing requirements, and national accreditation guidelines
  • Conduct educational activities legally and ethically
  • Current BLS and ACLS provider certifications from the American Heart Association required
  • PALS provider certification from the American Heart Association required within 3 months of hire
  • Documented Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited college or university
  • Willingness to complete a Master of Science in Nursing or related field
  • Unencumbered, current Registered Nurse license to practice in Michigan
  • Minimum five years of prior experience as a registered nurse providing direct patient care
  • Minimum two to three years of experience in the teaching field, including maternal-child, pediatric, Medical-Surgical, or Ambulatory Care
  • Satisfactory teaching experience, teacher evaluation, and training experiences preferred
  • Excellent written communication and organization skills
  • Ability to work with students and scholars from diverse backgrounds, abilities, and needs
  • Knowledge of issues and trends in nursing education
  • Adaptability to pedagogical, academic, and employment changes in healthcare
  • Experience in community relations and cultivating partnerships
  • Good judgment and commitment to program excellence
  • Ability to work collaboratively
  • Knowledge or experience working with Native Americans or in a tribal college or educational setting preferred
  • Submit a letter of interest, current resume or CV, unofficial transcripts, proof of tribal enrollment if claiming preference, and at least three professional references
