Job summary

Taylor Creek Restoration Nurseries of RES in Brodhead, WI is hiring for a General Labor position. You will support nursery operations across seasons, from seed processing to transplanting, with hands-on learning in indoors and outdoors tasks.

Qualifications

  • High School degree or equivalent.
  • Keen interest in plants and working with them in all forms, from seed to pot.
  • Experience in horticulture, agriculture or related fields.
  • Ability to read and understand tasks and ask questions.
  • Possess or be willing to get a pesticide applicators license for your state.
  • Native and invasive plant species knowledge for your state.
  • Spanish-speaking skills to work with summer staff.
  • Some supervisory experience.
  • Capable of walking over uneven surfaces and outdoors in various conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Work in seed and plant nursery areas from field seed collection to greenhouse transplanting and order pulling.
  • Indoors: seed processing (cleaning) and preparing seed orders, or transplanting in greenhouse.
  • Outdoors: watering or weeding, preparing plant orders, or helping collect native seed.
  • Learn to operate equipment like trimmers, seed cleaning machines; may drive forklift/ATV after training.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs and work in varying weather conditions.

General Labor Position: Taylor Creek Restoration Nurseries of RES

Taylor Creek is a native plant nursery in Brodhead, WI that grows native seed and plants and has an entry level position for someone passionate about plants, that enjoys working both inside and out. It is a full-time position and will work year-round, focusing on different aspects of the nursery depending on the season: Transplanting seedlings in the spring, maintaining potted plants in the summer, collecting seed in the fall, and cleaning seed in the winter.

The wage is $19 to $21 to start, with benefits.

The mission:

Our general labor will work in all areas of the seed and plant nursery, from field seed collection to greenhouse transplanting and order pulling of both seed and plants. Indoor work could be seed processing (cleaning) and preparing seed orders, or transplanting in the greenhouse. Outdoors you could be watering or weeding potted plants, preparing plant orders, or helping to collect native seed.

A Day in the Life

You’ll spend time in the seed warehouse, the greenhouse, and the field, operating equipment like trimmers, seed cleaning machines and can learn to drive a forklift, an ATV and other equipment—don’t worry, safety is always the top priority and you will be fully trained by our staff before you use any of our equipment.

If you love plants, you’re in the right place. You’ll be identifying native and invasive plant species and using that knowledge to guide your work.

Please note that this is not an exhaustive list of your duties.

Physical requirements:

You must be able to lift 50lbs, walk over uneven surfaces and up/down hills, climb on construction equipment and work outdoors and in inclement weather. Know that some of our environments can be quite dusty, and seasonally can be quite hot or quite cold.

  • High School degree or equivalent.
  • Keen interest in plants and working them in all their forms, from seed to pot.
What will make you stand out?
  • Experience in horticulture, agriculture or related fields
  • Ability to read and understand various tasks as assigned, and be willing to ask questions.
  • Have or be willing to get a pesticide applicators license in the applicable categories for your assigned state.
  • Native and invasive plant species knowledge, applicable to your assigned state.
  • Have some level of Spanish speaking skills to work with our summer temporary staff.
  • Some supervisory experience.
  • Capable of walking over uneven surfaces, climbing on construction equipment, and navigating hills.
  • Comfortable working outdoors and performing tasks at ground level.
