The position combines hands-on animal care with operational leadership, including training Nursery Technicians, coordinating tasks with managers, safety compliance, and process optimization to achieve strong nursery performance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; 1–2 years related experience or equivalent.
• Must be a team player and able to multitask.
• Able to read, write and speak simple English sentences.

Responsibilities

• Schedules and coordinates daily and weekly tasks with the Service Manager and other department heads and staff.
• Conducts a weekly review of departmental performance.
• Execute monthly supply ordering.
• Ensures proper feeding processes are followed so animals maximize nursery performance.
• Implements technical protocols and helps to develop and test new processes.
• Ensures the farm's working environment is safe by providing safety equipment, training, and actions to prevent hazardous conditions.
• Ensures all equipment, machinery, and vehicles are accounted for and properly maintained.
• Works with Service Manager and HR on personnel issues including hiring, safety, performance evaluation, and staffing levels.
• Is responsible for training all Nursery Technicians and ensures proper animal husbandry skills are used.
• Must learn and perform responsibilities described within CVFF’s process manual.
• Ensures compliance with environmental laws and procedures to which the company subscribes.
• Maintains bio-security protocols in the department.

Job Description

As a Nursery Lead, you’ll oversee daily operations for a large-scale nursery farm caring for a high volume of pigs while leading a team in a fast-paced swine production environment. This role combines hands‑on animal care, team leadership, safety, training, and operational management to support animal wellbeing and strong nursery performance. Responsibilities include coordinating daily and weekly farm tasks with the Service Manager and department leaders, reviewing performance, ordering monthly supplies, ensuring proper feeding processes, maintaining equipment, supporting staffing and team development, training Nursery Technicians, implementing technical protocols, testing new processes, maintaining biosecurity standards, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental procedures. Duties And Responsibilities

• Schedules and coordinates daily and weekly tasks with the Service Manager and other department heads and staff. May need to approve time and attendance for farm staff
• Conducts a weekly review of departmental performance
• Execute monthly supply ordering
• Ensures proper feeding processes are followed so animals maximize nursery performance
• Implements technical protocols and helps to develop and test new processes
• Ensures the farm's working environment is safe by providing safety equipment, training, and actions to prevent hazardous conditions
• Ensures all equipment, machinery, and vehicles are accounted for and properly maintained
• Works in conjunction with the Service Manager and Human Resources on personnel issues including, but not limited to, hiring, termination, worker safety, performance evaluation, and staffing levels
• Is responsible for training all Nursery Technicians and ensures proper animal husbandry skills are being utilized
• Must learn and perform the responsibilities described within CVFF’s process manual.
• Is responsible for complying with all environmental laws and procedures to which the company is required to follow or voluntarily subscribes
• Maintains bio‑security protocols in the department

Qualifications

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred an a minimum of one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Requires one who is multi‑task oriented and a team player
• Ability to read, write and speak simple sentences in English
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
• Must understand that the Company is a producer of high quality pork.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds

Essential Functions

• Meet all bio‑security requirements as outlined by Animal Care policy/ procedure.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS; PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Stationary Position: Must be able to remain in a stationary position for more than 85% of the time.
• Moving/ Traversing: The person in this position needs to frequently move around the Production areas of the Barns/ Farm and will be moving/ traversing more than 85% of the time to attend to the care needs of the animals.
• Operating/ Activating/ Using/ Preparing/ Inspecting/ Placing/ Positioning: Frequently utilizes animal movement techniques, breeding or farrowing equipment, etc.
• Ascend/ Descend/ Traverse: Occasionally ascends/ descends a ladder to work atop equipment and/ or provide routine maintenance of Electronic Sow Feeders (ESF’s) or compost structures.
• Position Self to Move: Frequently positions self to complete tasks by reaching under/ around animals, into/ out of animal crates/ pens, remove material from the floor/ walls, and assist animals in the farrowing process.
• Communicate/ Detect/ Identify/ Exchange Information: Constant visual monitoring of sow/ animal health and well‑being, frequent communication with Team Members regarding animal movements, health status, task completion, etc. Shares information regarding task completion with Farm management.
• Move/ Transport/ Install/ Remove: Frequently moves equipment/ animals weighing up to 50 pounds, occasionally moves equipment/ animals weighing up to 75 pounds, rarely moves equipment/ animals weighing up to 100 pounds. Frequently transports equipment/ materials/ animals through various areas of the Barn weighing 50 pounds or more. Frequently utilizes personal protective equipment (PPE) including animal sort boards weighing up to 25 pounds and requiring the ability to twist, bend, and maneuver around the body.
• Work Environment: Frequent exposure to loud noises, dirty/ dusty environments, hot and cold temperatures, outdoor environments, animal dander, manure, blood.
