Job summary

Apollo Day Nursery in Montana is seeking a Nursery Cook to organise, cook and prepare a healthy balanced diet for children from birth to 5 years. You will work under the Nursery Manager to plan menus and manage the kitchen.

Responsibilities include budgeting for food, keeping weekly expenditure records, ensuring food safety and hygiene, handling allergies information for parents, and maintaining high standards of cleanliness in the kitchen.

Responsibilities

• Budget holder for food and goods for the nursery and be responsible for the purchase of such provisions
• Keep weekly accounts of such expenditure
• Be responsible, in conjunction with the Manager, for planning healthy and balanced menus
• Prepare meals according to individual dietary requirements where necessary
• Ensure meals/snacks are safely prepared, nutritionally balanced, of good quality and appropriate in quantity following recommendations in The Eatwell Guide, DfE Food Safety advice for providers/Welsh Government Food and Nutrition guidance for Childcare settings/Setting the Table: National Guidance and Food Standards for Early Years Childcare Providers in Scotland (Scotland)
• Be clear about the regulations relating to allergies and provide adequate information to parents about the contents of meals provided
• Co-ordinate serving the mid-day meal and snacks throughout the day
• Wash-up crockery, cutlery and all equipment used to prepare meals
• Meet the standards for food safety management procedures as set out in Safer Food, Better Business (England, Wales)
• Be responsible for hygiene and risk assessment within the kitchen area, including all record keeping relevant to the post
• Be responsible for food safety within the nursery including all safety checks relating to food storage and preparation
• Maintain an agreed high standard of hygiene and cleanliness within the kitchen area
