Job summary

Job description

The Nurse Trainer willparticipatein the design, implementation, and evaluation of trainingcurricula provided to direct support professionals and others working inbehavioral health settings inOakland and Macomb counties. Outcomes include the training of staff toimprove the delivery of high quality, comprehensive, safe, individualized person/family-centered care.The Nurse Trainer will show a knowledge base that includes usingavariety ofadultteaching strategies, assessment, and evaluation methods.

Essential Functions
  • With the training team, develop health-related courses for implement ation within the network.
  • Provide education, training, and employee development classes related to healthy lifestyles, health care and nursing.
  • Ensure competency in Medications Administration, Basic Health, and other courses for direct support professionals working within our network.
  • Ensure curricula content meets various licensing and state guidelines for direct support professionals.
  • Ensure competency assessments, comprised of individualized appointments to evaluate return demonstrations for Basic H ealth and M edication A dministration for each participant who successfully completes th ose training s .
  • Provide consultation as needed/requested to providers regarding their conformance to health and medication training standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements and Qualifications
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing, BSN , from an accredited college/university .
Training Requirements (licenses, programs, or certificates):
  • An active unrestricted Michigan registered nurse (R.N.) license.
  • At least 2 years of nursing experience as a registered nurse within the last 5 years immediately preceding the application, including teaching in a health care-related field or a job that requires common direct practice nursing competencies.
  • At least 1 year ( 1,600 hours total) of which must be in the provision of long-term care facility services. A long-term care facility is a state licensed nursing home, hospital long-term care unit, specialized residential home, county care facility, homes for the aged, assisted living facility, hospice, or other like provider type.
  • Must have completed a course in teaching adults or have experience in teaching adults.
Experience Requirements:
  • Experience in staff development and/or training and an understanding of psychiatric diagnoses, the behavioral health service system, medication administration/processes, integrated healthcare and service needs required .
  • Experience with mental health/dual diagnosis, intellectual / developmental disabilities, community mental health experience preferred.

  • Ability to teach basicmedical tasks to a continuum of learners including temperatures, blood pressures, medication administration (based on MD orders)and documentation,side effect monitoring,blood sugar monitoring,and others.

AdditionalInformation
  • Must have available means of transportation to and from OCHN and for required offsite meetings or site visits.
  • Must be available for meetings and events which may occur outside of standard office hours.
  • Work performed primarily in an office environment.
  • This position is approximately 80% office based and 20% remote/home office.
  • Hybrid (onsite/remote) work schedule available , generally up to 1 day/week , following completion of their orientation period (90 days) .
