Job description

Job Summary

The Nurse Technician is a nursing student employed by Summit Pacific Medical Center. Eligible candidates are currently enrolled in good standing in a nursing program approved by the commission, or have graduated within the last 30 days, and have a determination from the secretary that there is good cause to continue registration.

Position: Emergency Department – Day Shift – PRN. The role is performed under the direct supervision of a registered nurse who must be immediately available.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain eligibility and qualification for nursing technician employment.
  • Follow scope of practice defined by WAC and facility standards.
  • Perform nursing functions based on current education and verified capability by the nursing program.
  • Assume responsibility for accurate and timely administration of medications (excluding chemotherapy IV and scheduled drugs). Practice the eight rights of medication administration.
  • Monitor medication effects, note side effects, and report to RN supervisor as indicated.
  • Notify RN of any medication, procedure, or treatment that cannot be performed.
  • Keep RN, Unit Manager, and Charge Nurse aware of changing patient needs that may affect the plan of care.
  • Transcribe, note, and carry out physician orders accurately and promptly.
  • Safeguard patient rights and dignity in all aspects of care.
  • Assist with prompt responses to call lights and patient needs.
  • Support team with correct positioning, cleanliness, grooming, and food assistance.
  • Assist with rehabilitative programs and maintain patient and facility safety.
  • Report incidents, abuse, or neglect immediately.
  • Provide hands‑on care in transfers, ADLs, comfort, hygiene, and nutrition.
  • Ensure patients are prepared for services such as appointments, medications, and therapies.
  • Safeguard patient belongings and report unexplained loss.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures for incidents, accidents, and fire.
  • Use supplies wisely to manage costs.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Enrolled in a nursing program or graduated within the last 30 days.
  • Understanding of confidentiality of patient information.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective listening skills.
  • Competent documentation abilities.
  • Proficiency with medical devices as required.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated empathy, diplomacy, and teamwork.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and flexibility to cover additional hours including weekends and holidays.
