Spectrum Health's 4 South Progressive Neurosurgical unit in Butterworth Hospital Grand Rapids seeks an experienced registered nurse for night shift. You will provide bedside care for complex neurology and neurosurgical patients, including post-op spine, craniotomy and brain tumor cases.

Under supervision of a nurse, you will perform routine nursing tasks, monitor patients, manage linens, mobility, and assist with procedures as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• BLS within 90 days required.
• Direct patient care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Under supervision of a Nurse, performs bedside nursing care and treatments per policies.
• Assists in procedures such as catheterizations, suctioning, colostomies, enemas, peri care.
• Care for multiple neuroscience patients with fall risk, including post-op spine and brain tumor cases.

About this unit

4 South is a 44 bed Progressive Neurosurgical unit located in Butterworth. In this role you will be instrumental in the care of general neurology and neurosurgical patients. Our neurosurgical patients are highly complex. We care for spine surgery patients, patients who have undergone craniotomy and craniectomy for brain tumor resection, removal or debulking and elective aneurysm interventions. Our general neurology patients include those who have experienced acute, stroke, seizure, chronic headaches and general neurological disorders including Guillen-Barre Syndrome, multiple sclerosis, and myasthenia gravis exacerbations.

Scope of work

Under supervision of a Nurse and following hospital policies and procedures, performs various nursing care tasks and treatments on assigned patients. Performs routine bedside nursing activities including bathing and personal grooming of patients; ambulating, moving and turning patients; assisting patients with bedpans or urinary devices; making patient beds and caring for personal property. Assists in performing additional nursing procedures such as catheterizations, suctioning, irrigating colostomies, applying restraints, giving enemas, douches and sitz baths or peri care. Will care for multiple patients with a variety of diagnoses, but a focus on neuroscience patients and have some fall risk patients.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent Required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 Days Required
• Direct patient care experience Preferred
