The Nurse Tech performs basic patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, including tasks involving the physical, psychosocial, safety, and security needs of the patient.

This position may be assigned to the I-Flex Resource Pool and must follow the I-Flex guidelines. It requires population-specific competencies and adherence to National Patient Safety Goals based on patient contact level.

Qualifications
  • Must be currently enrolled in and attending an eligible state-accredited Nursing program
  • Current BLS certification or completion within 90 days of hire
  • Effective communication in English
  • Adherence to Nurse Tech Program guidelines; may be assigned to the I-Flex Resource Pool or a clinical unit
Responsibilities

The Nurse Tech responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing personal patient care tasks such as mouth care, bed making, baths, perineal care, hair care, shaving, backrubs, and bedpan or urinal emptying
  • Assisting with patient safety issues, including identification bands, fall protocols, restraints, positioning, and incident reporting
  • Performing treatments like urinary catheter care, enemas, sitz baths, compresses, and assisting with ambulation
  • Conducting and documenting diagnostic testing, including vital signs, blood glucose, EKG, telemetry, pulse oximetry, and Doppler
  • Performing select sterile procedures, including specimen collection, wound care, tracheostomy care and suction, urinary catheterization, and tube feedings
  • Note: Nurse Techs cannot administer medications or independently assess patients. Refer to Oklahoma Board of Nursing guidelines and policies for delegation of nursing functions.
  • Transporting medications as needed

The Nurse Tech reports to the assigned Clinical leader. Additional physical demands or respiratory fit tests may be required. Follow standard precautions to minimize exposure to infections, blood, body fluids, chemicals, and electrical equipment.
