Job summary

Corewell Health's Blodgett Hospital in Grand Rapids is seeking a dedicated Med/Surg support team member for the 4E unit. Under RN or Provider supervision, you will perform basic patient care tasks, take vitals, assist with wound care, catheters, and feeding, and communicate observations to the health care team.

This is a full-time day-shift role (7:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m.), 36 hours weekly with every-other weekend. Requirements include a High School Diploma or equivalent and BLS within 90 days.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) is required within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Take vitals and report observations to the RN or Provider.
• Assist with wound care, catheterizations, and enteral/parenteral feeding as directed.
• Maintain patient safety and accurate documentation per department guidelines.

About The Unit

4E is a 24 bed Med/Surg unit at Blodgett Hospital that cares for the general medical and surgical patients. Employees are often drawn to 4E for the variety of patients and the team environment. Our staff become competent in caring for a large array of both surgical and medical patients. Specifically, our team is known as being experts in nasogastric tubes, urinary catheters, and urologic care, managing enteral and parenteral feeding, and managing the care of wounds, ostomies, tubes and drains.

Scope of work

Acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider. Performs basic skills per department guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team. Collects and reports physiological, psychological, sociocultural and spiritual needs of patients and families in coordination with and as delineated by the RN or Provider. Responsibilities include taking vitals, checking blood sugars, bed bathing, ambulating, wound care, catheterization and acting as a safety attendant for patients. Ensures that the required documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner.
