Job summary

University of Missouri Health Care in Missouri's Columbia area seeks a Care Team Associate for the Children’s Hospital – Birthing Center. This full-time night role (7p-7:30a) supports mothers, newborns and families, with 75 FTE staffing and alternating 12-hour shifts, every other weekend and rotating holidays.

You will assist patients with daily tasks, perform essential checks, respond promptly to patient needs, and collaborate with nursing staff to impact outcomes for mothers and babies.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in nursing program or CNA training with plan to complete required course within 90 days.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification or exam registration.
• PCT certification or equivalent patient care credential.
• Direct patient care experience in nursing assistant, EMT, or surgical tech roles within last 3 years.
• Completed or in progress UAP training program with 100 hours of patient care (within last 3 years).
• Nursing licensure candidate who has not yet passed licensure exams (within past 3 years).
• Nursing program completed outside the US and awaiting licensure in this country.

Responsibilities

• Assist nursing/ancillary staff in transferring patients and delivering meals.
• Organize workload and manage multiple tasks while maintaining a clean, orderly environment.
• Educate and train new staff in Care Team Associate responsibilities.
• Support routine and emergent duties as directed by nursing staff and management.
• Perform patient position changes, equipment handling, hygiene care, and basic dressing changes.
• Document timely and accurate information in the bed-management system.
• Respond promptly to patient call lights and address needs using positive guest relations.
• Complete department-specific duties as outlined in documents.

Compensation:

• Base Pay Range: $16.68 - $26.31 per hour, based on experience

Shift Differentials

• Additional $2.00 per hour for weekend shift
• Additional $2.00 per hour for night shift

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION

• Assist nursing staff /ancillary staff in transferring patients from bed to bed, stretcher or wheelchair, pickup and delivery of patient meal trays, andassisting with patient feeding as directed.
• Demonstrate the ability to organize workload and manage multiple tasks while maintaining a clutter-free and orderly environment including prompt answering of unit telephones and accurate delivery of messages and information to patients, families, visitors, staff, and personnel upon request.
• Educate and train new staff members in the responsibilities of the Care Team Associate role.
• Perform other duties as delegated by nursing staff and unit management as needed in both routine and emergent situations.
• Perform patient position changes, placement and removal of patient equipment, daily hygiene care, simple non-sterile dressing changes, finger stick glucose checks, may perform venipuncture to obtain a blood sample, maintain quality control checks, and deliver/retrieve lab specimens and supplies as requested.
• Responsible for accurate and timely entry of information into the bed-management system.
• Responsible for prompt response to patient call lights and addressing patient needs using positive guest relations skills while ensuring patient vital signs,intake, output, height, and weight were obtained and documented as directed.
• May complete unit/department-specific duties as outlined in department documents.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

One of the following:

• Is enrolled in a professional or practical nursing education program and has or will complete a Fundamentals of Nursing course within 90 days; or
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) exam registration; or
• Proof of certification as a Patient Care Technician (PCT); or
• Direct patient care experience in the past three (3) years as a nursing assistant, emergency medical technician, or surgical technician; or
• Completion within the last three (3) years, or will complete within 180 days, an Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP) training program and clinical log demonstrating 100 hours of patient care experience; or
• Nursing licensure candidate who was unsuccessful on the state licensure examinations in the past three (3) years; or
• Completion a nursing program outside the United States and is awaiting the licensure examination in this country.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met with or without reasonable accommodation. The performance of these physical demands is an essential function of the job. This position is very active and requires ambulating, reaching, and moving objects weighing up to and over 20 lbs.
This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required.
