Job summary

Corewell Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids is seeking a Nursing Technician to support the 6N Cardiovascular unit, delivering patient care under RN supervision and assisting with monitoring and basic procedures.

Orientation spans 6 weeks with weekday classroom and unit shifts; full-time night schedule is 7:00 pm–7:30 am with 36 hours weekly and variable weekends.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent experience required.
• BLS Certification required within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Rounding to care for 12–14 patients per shift.
• Checking blood sugar.
• Wound care and dressing changes.
• Bed baths.
• Toileting assistance.
• Ambulating.
• Catheterization.
• Acting as safety attendant for patients as needed.
• Possible involvement in postmortem care.
• Clean patient environment and report equipment issues.

About this unit:

6 North is a Cardiovascular inpatient unit within Butterworth Hospital that specializes in caring for adult patients with Heart Failure, cardiac dysrhythmias, newly implanted pacemakers and defibrillators, pulmonary hypertension and cardiac conditions requiring medical treatment. Most patients receive continuous telemetry monitoring.

Individuals would want to work on this unit do to the large variety of cardiovascular and progressive care experiences that allow for a robust skill set. The culture of this unit is team work and support. Staff works closely with physicians and other healthcare providers and services to provide optimal care in the inpatient setting.

Scope of Work

Nurse Technicians act as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN).

The Nursing Technician role is a fast-paced role requiring strong communication and teamwork skills, regardless of the department you are working in.

• rounding to care for up 12-14 patients per shift
• Checking Blood Sugar
• Wound Care/dressing changes
• Bed bathing
• Toileting
• Ambulating
• Catheterization
• acting as safety attendant for patients as needed
• you could be involved in Postmortem care
• Cleans patient's environment / work area / equipment and communicates any equipment malfunctions to appropriate department / unit personnel
• Demonstrates a high standard of moral and ethical behavior
• Advocates for privacy, confidentiality and security of patient, staff and organization data

Orientation

Orientation weeks will require flexibility to train during weekdays for 6 weeks, before phasing into regular night shifts.

Week 1: Requires classroom orientation 8am-4:30pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday.

Week 2-4: Orientation shifts will be in the Nursing Unit 7am-7:30pm

Week 3-6: Monday 8:00am -4:30pm classroom orientation for Advanced Safety Care and 2 additional training days on the nursing floor with a preceptor

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent experience required
• Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) Required within 90 days
