Wage Range: $36.80 – $51.40/hour (Actual wage based on experience)

Position Summary

Utilizing the nursing process, the house supervisor administers, plans, directs, and coordinates nursing service functions and activities for the Nursing Departments. Responsible for the recommendation, development, and implementation of policies and procedures in these areas, and for keeping the Director of Inpatient or CNO informed of progress and potential problems. Maintains and promotes collaboration with other service areas and serves as on-campus leadership in the absence of Administration.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Receives report on the condition of each patient. Ensures notification of the physician of major changes.
  • Supervises all nursing care given to patients of Memorial Hospital in the absence of leadership.
  • Provides elbow support to all nursing departments as needed.
  • Help with admissions, discharges and transfers in all nursing departments.
  • Review Medication Reconciliation with patients admitted and if open, contact the patient’s pharmacy to obtain a medication list.
  • Responds to emergency and/or code situations and delegates appropriate actions. Implements internal/external disaster, fire, tornado, and bomb plans as needed.
  • Relieve the nurses working in Inpatient or ED for breaks and meals.
  • Assists with discharge planning.
  • Provides relief when the nursing team on shift must step away for education requirements.
  • Provides relief in Inpatient or ED when there is a call-in and no backup.
  • Occasionally be the care provider for OP Nursing Services.
  • Help to orient new staff members.
  • Help with competency checkoffs and mock codes.
  • Delegates unit work assignments appropriately to ensure safe patient care based on acuity.
  • Understands the limits of delegation to licensed and unlicensed personnel and consistently works within those boundaries.
  • Utilizes the appropriate chain of command for resolution of difficult issues.
  • Maintains competency for the operation of all unit equipment.
  • Must be able to help provide nursing cares in all nursing departments.
  • Carries “8536” phone and addresses or delegates all incoming calls.
  • Gets medications from pharmacy and mixes, as needed.
  • Completes shift to shift staffing and handles all call-ins.
  • Rounds on all inpatients during shift.
  • Collaborates by working with others to achieve unit and organizational goals.
  • Participates in unit meetings and all required education.
  • Acts as a liaison between patient, family, physician, all hospital departments and nursing personnel.
  • Functions in a resource/advisory capacity to nursing personnel.
  • Serves as an advocate for Nursing/Hospital Administration in promoting and supporting the mission and values of Memorial Hospital.
  • Assists department director with performance reviews, coaching of staff and disciplinary action as needed.
  • Assisting Inpatient RNs with high acuity tasks or procedures with physicians at bedside as needed.
  • Overseeing LPN’s doing their IV pushes, hanging IV piggybacks, assisting with cares of chest tubes/wound vacs/complicated dressings/etc.
  • Daily checks on crash cart/emergency equipment; house alarms; temperature checks
  • Reports to ED or patient room, for all Code Blues/STEMI and Stroke alerts/Rapid response
  • Starts protocols for internal or external disaster as needed.
  • Pharmacy Backup:
  • Finding and obtaining medications for attending RNs, that are not carried in the Omnicell.
  • Mixing IV drips that are not standard mix concentrations.
  • Assisting attending RNs to run and monitor IV drips not commonly used at this facility
  • Restocking Omnicell if needed
  • Calling On-call Pharmacy as needed
  • Restocking Crash carts and emergency medicines as needed.
  • Changing pharmacies for patients at discharge when pharmacies are closed.
  • Troubleshoot computer issues and be able to help the facility transition to paper charting during down time.
  • Must maintain proficiency in Inpatient, ED and OP Nursing Services EMR documentation.
  • Will embody FOCUS values through interactions with patients/residents and coworkers.
  • Other job duties may be added with appropriate training.
