Job summary

Bon Secours Mercy Health is seeking a Supervisor Nursing for Southside Medical Center in Petersburg, VA. You will supervise a team of nurses and clinical staff, coordinating administrative and operational activities to ensure safe and effective care delivery.

The role blends roughly half clinical duties with administrative support, helping plan unit goals, readiness for surveys, and fostering professional growth through mentorship and collaborative leadership.

Qualifications

• 2 years nursing experience with 1 year minimum clinical experience in the acuity level of desired area (preferred).
• Charge nurse or management experience (preferred).
• Current RN license in state they are working or covered by compact (required).
• BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire, must obtain prior to entering patient care setting).
• Certifications required based on the unit(s) that the leader oversees and the requirements for those specific units (e.g., PALS, ACLS, NRP, TNCC, ENPC, National Board Certification, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Leads a team of nurses and clinical support.
• Supports managers/directors on larger units.
• Performs limited managerial responsibilities and works on ground support for frontline staff and assists in direct patient care as needed.
• Assists manager/director in planning and supervision of unit/department goals and objectives.
• Assists with managers/directors in planning and maintaining department's readiness for regulatory surveyors.
• Serves as professional role model, mentor, and clinical resource.
• Responsible for personal and professional growth as well as fostering an environment where interdisciplinary team members can contribute to optimal patient outcomes and grow professionally.
• Responsible for modeling core culture and safety behaviors to eliminate preventable harm and implement high reliability principles.
