Job summary

Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health, part of Universal Health Services, seeks an RN Supervisor to lead nursing staff, schedule daily tasks, and guide patient care using the nursing process and holistic framework.

Responsibilities include responding to emotional, social and physical needs, documenting patient information, supervising units, planning treatment, and intervening psychotherapeutically. Evening shift 2:45pm–11:15pm with rotating weekends. $10,000 sign-on bonus.

Qualifications

• RN license in Virginia or compact state
• One year psychiatric nursing experience preferred
• One year supervisory experience preferred
• Knowledge of medical terminology, residential treatment and psychiatric disorders
• Able to communicate effectively with families, payers, therapists and physicians
• Demonstrated leadership and supervisory abilities

Position Description

The RN Supervisor (Registered Nurse RN) directs the activities of the nursing staff members, including scheduling the daily nursing tasks for the department and providing guidance on operational procedures and patient care. The Supervisor Registered Nurse will also provide direct patient care, following the nursing process and holistic conceptual framework in the development of nursing care plans.

Qualifications

Requirements

• Graduation from an approved School of Nursing, which confers RN, AD, or Diploma in Nursing required. BSN or MSN preferred.
• One-year psychiatric nursing experience preferred. One-year supervisory experience preferred
• Needs basic understanding of and comfort level with medical terminology, residential treatment, clinical science/pathology and psychiatric disorders.
• Must know how to gather and analyze data. Must be articulate, assertive, and able to communicate effectively with families, payers, therapists and physicians both verbally and in writing.
• Demonstrated knowledge of effective management and supervisory practices.

• Ability to plan, direct, and monitor others’ activities with demonstrated leadership abilities that contribute to a positive work environment.
• Skill in the use of computer systems and software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel).

Licensure/ Certification

• Licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia or compact authority, as a Registered Nurse.
• CPR certification required.

Shift Details:

Evening shift (02:45pm- 11:15pm) with rotating weekends and holidays

Physical requirements:

The physical requirements for this position include being able to stand, squat, kneel, sit, and lie on the floor for long periods of time. The incumbent must by physically capable of providing direct total physical care to unpredictable, potentially violent, mentally ill patients as necessary including lifting, supporting, running towards or away from areas where problems are occurring, and pushing and pulling equipment, such as, wheelchairs, stretchers, and beds. Ability to perform CPR and First Aid. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. of weight. Must be able to read, write clearly, talk, and listen. Must be 21 years old or older.
