Job summary

South Carolina DDSN is seeking a school nurse substitute who is a registered and certified nurse. The role supports students by promoting health, preventing illness, and addressing health problems to safeguard the educational process. Other duties as assigned.

The nurse will assist sick children, document visits with a daily log, review health records, and collaborate with staff and parents to ensure a safe learning environment. Some classroom medical support and staff training may be required.

Job Summary:

The school nurse substitute is a registered professional nurse certified, working in the school setting who strengthens and facilitates the educational process by improving and protecting the health status of children. The major focus of school nursing services is the prevention of illness and disability and the early detection and correction of health problems. Other duties as assigned.

Job Duties:

75% - Nursing:
Assists with sick children when they visit the nurses office throughout the school day. Communicates with parents and staff as needed. Keep a daily log to list those students who visit the nurse's office, or need special attention. Review students' health records and inform school personnel of special health problems, possible school safety hazards. Provides comfortable and supporting learning environment for students.

25% - Classroom Medical Support:
Serves as a resource person to school personnel. Participates selectively in classroom instruction under the supervision of the teacher. Orient the staff and teach specific medical procedures for the evaluation and maintenance of the medical involved student in the classroom. Participate in school functions scheduled for the day of work.

Minimum Requirements:

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
