Job summary

Montefiore Wakefield Campus seeks a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner to join newborn services. You will work with an interdisciplinary team to develop and implement care plans for high-risk neonates in a level 3 NICU with advanced technology.

Position features a rotating schedule, 12-hour shifts, and responsibilities spanning assessment, consultation, medication management, and procedures. NY licensure, NP certification, BLS/NRP required, with neonatal experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Nursing required.
• Board certification as Nurse Practitioner required.
• Current NY RN and NP licensure; DEA registration required.
• BLS required; NRP certification required.
• 3 years of neonatal experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement the therapeutic plan of care with the interdisciplinary team.
• Consult nursing staff on the therapeutic regimen within the hospital.
• Facilitate continuity of care across home, facilities, and physician appointments.
• Participate in activities related to nursing standards and outside agencies.
• Perform complete newborn history, exam, and psychosocial assessment.
• Order labs/imaging per protocol and act on results with referrals as needed.
• Formulate care plans with attending, patient, and family.
• Prescribe inpatient and discharge meds per NYS law; manage devices and therapies.
• Perform procedures including endotracheal intubation, resuscitation, IV/central lines, circumcisions.

We invite you to have an opportunity to join our newborn services team as a NeonatalNursePractitionerat the MontefioreWakefieldCampus. MontefioreWakefieldhas approximately 1,300 births each year, including a percentage of high-risk infants in need of specialized neonatal care and a 15 bed level 3 NICU. There is advanced technology available, including high-frequency mechanical ventilation and nitric oxide.

Summary of Position:

• Work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team including the attending physician to develop and implement the therapeutic plan of care for a group of patients and ensure communication with family members.
• Provide consultation about the therapeutic regimen to the nursing staff responsible for the patients care in the hospital setting.
• Facilitate the continuity of care across the continuum of services, e.g., home care, other facilities, appointments with physicians etc.
• Participate in designated activities related to professional nursing standards and regulations of relevant outside agencies.
• Perform complete health history, physical examination, and psychosocial assessment of patients in the newbornnursery and neonatal intensive care unit.
• Order customary laboratory, radiological and diagnostic studies per practice protocols, differentiates between normal/abnormal findings and follows protocols for abnormal findings, which may include referral to consulting physicians per customary pattern of the attending physicians or with the collaborating physician.
• Formulate the plan of care, along with the attending physician, patient and family, based on expected goals of care and length of stay
• Prescribe in-patient and discharge medications according to New York State law, including controlled substances with DEA authorization. Prescribes medical equipment, devices, physical and occupational therapy, and home health services per practice protocol.
• Do procedures that include, but are not limited to endotracheal intubation, newborn resuscitations, IV insertions, central line insertions and circumcisions.

The position has a Rotation Schedule including holidays and weekends and may require flexibility in working the day shift, based on operational needs.

Education and Experience:

• Master’s Degree in Nursing required
• Board certification as aNursePractitionerCompetence required
• Licensure: Current registration as a Registered ProfessionalNurseandNursePractitionerin New York; Drug Enforcement Authority (DEA) registration, required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required
• Relevant clinical nursing practice in the care of the patient population served.
• 3 years of neonatal experience as an RN/NP preferred
