Job summary

Montefiore Wakefield Campus is seeking a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner to join the newborn services team. The NP will collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement care plans for patients in the NICU and newborn nursery, and coordinate with families and other providers.

The ideal candidate holds a Master’s in Nursing, NY NP and RN licenses, DEA, BLS, and NRP; neonatal experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Nursing required.
• Board certification as Nurse Practitioner.
• Licensure: NY RN and NP.
• DEA registration required.
• BLS required.
• NRP certification required.
• 3 years of neonatal experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement the therapeutic plan of care with the attending physician.
• Provide consultation about the therapeutic regimen to the nursing staff.
• Ensure continuity of care across the continuum (home care, other facilities, physician appointments).
• Perform health history, exams, and psychosocial assessments in the newborn nursery/ NICU.
• Order labs, imaging, and diagnostics per protocol; refer as needed.
• Formulate care plans with attending physician and family; discuss goals of care and length of stay.
• Prescribe medications and order equipment per NYS law and protocol.
• Perform procedures (e.g., intubation, resuscitation, IV/central lines, circumcisions).
• Rotation schedule includes holidays/weekends; shift flexibility may be required.

Montefiore Wakefield has approximately 1,300 births each year, including a percentage of high-risk infants in need of specialized neonatal care and a 15 bed level 3 NICU. There is advanced technology available, including high-frequency mechanical ventilation and nitric oxide.

Summary of Position

Work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team including the attending physician to develop and implement the therapeutic plan of care for a group of patients and ensure communication with family members. Provide consultation about the therapeutic regimen to the nursing staff responsible for the patients care in the hospital setting. Facilitate the continuity of care across the continuum of services, e.g., home care, other facilities, appointments with physicians etc. Participate in designated activities related to professional nursing standards and regulations of relevant outside agencies. Perform complete health history, physical examination, and psychosocial assessment of patients in the newborn nursery and neonatal intensive care unit. Order customary laboratory, radiological and diagnostic studies per practice protocols, differentiates between normal/abnormal findings and follows protocols for abnormal findings, which may include referral to consulting physicians per customary pattern of the attending physicians or with the collaborating physician. Formulate the plan of care, along with the attending physician, patient and family, based on expected goals of care and length of stay Prescribe in-patient and discharge medications according to New York State law, including controlled substances with DEA authorization. Prescribes medical equipment, devices, physical and occupational therapy, and home health services per practice protocol. Do procedures that include, but are not limited to endotracheal intubation, newborn resuscitations, IV insertions, central line insertions and circumcisions. The position has a Rotation Schedule including holidays and weekends and may require flexibility in working the day shift, based on operational needs.

Education and Experience

Master's Degree in Nursing required Board certification as a Nurse Practitioner Competence required Licensure: Current registration as a Registered Professional Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in New York; Drug Enforcement Authority (DEA) registration, required Basic Life Support (BLS) required Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required Relevant clinical nursing practice in the care of the patient population served. 3 years of neonatal experience as an RN/NP preferred Montefiore Medical Center is an equal employment opportunity employer.
