Job summary

Montefiore Wakefield Campus seeks a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner to join newborn services with a 12-hour night shift in a 15-bed Level 3 NICU. You will collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, supervise care plans, and communicate with families within a high-risk neonatal environment.

The role requires a Master’s in Nursing, NY NP licensure and DEA, BLS and NRP certification, plus 3 years of neonatal RN/NP experience preferred. Rotation includes holidays and weekends, with hours varying.

Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Nursing required.
• Board certification as a Nurse Practitioner.
• Licensure: Current registration as a Registered Professional Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in New York; DEA registration, required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required
• 3 years of neonatal experience as an RN/NP preferred

Responsibilities

• Work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement the therapeutic plan of care for a group of patients and ensure communication with family members.
• Provide consultation about the therapeutic regimen to the nursing staff responsible for the patients care in the hospital setting.
• Facilitate continuity of care across the continuum of services, e.g., home care, other facilities, appointments with physicians etc.
• Participate in designated activities related to professional nursing standards and regulations of relevant outside agencies.
• Perform complete health history, physical examination, and psychosocial assessment of patients in the newborn nursery and neonatal intensive care unit.
• Order laboratory, radiological and diagnostic studies per practice protocols, differentiate normal/abnormal findings, refer as needed.
• Formulate the plan of care with attending physician, patient and family, based on goals and length of stay.
• Prescribe medications and medical equipment per NYS law, including controlled substances with DEA authorization; include home health services per protocol.
• Perform procedures including endotracheal intubation, newborn resuscitations, IV insertions, central line insertions and circumcisions.

Montefiore Wakefield has approximately 1,300 births each year, including a percentage of high-risk infants in need of specialized neonatal care and a 15 bed level 3 NICU. There is advanced technology available, including high-frequency mechanical ventilation and nitric oxide.

Summary Of Position

• Work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team including the attending physician to develop and implement the therapeutic plan of care for a group of patients and ensure communication with family members.
• Provide consultation about the therapeutic regimen to the nursing staff responsible for the patients care in the hospital setting.
• Facilitate the continuity of care across the continuum of services, e.g., home care, other facilities, appointments with physicians etc.
• Participate in designated activities related to professional nursing standards and regulations of relevant outside agencies.
• Perform complete health history, physical examination, and psychosocial assessment of patients in the newborn nursery and neonatal intensive care unit.
• Order customary laboratory, radiological and diagnostic studies per practice protocols, differentiates between normal/abnormal findings and follows protocols for abnormal findings, which may include referral to consulting physicians per customary pattern of the attending physicians or with the collaborating physician.
• Formulate the plan of care, along with the attending physician, patient and family, based on expected goals of care and length of stay
• Prescribe in-patient and discharge medications according to New York State law, including controlled substances with DEA authorization. Prescribes medical equipment, devices, physical and occupational therapy, and home health services per practice protocol.
• Do procedures that include, but are not limited to endotracheal intubation, newborn resuscitations, IV insertions, central line insertions and circumcisions.

The position has a Rotation Schedule including holidays and weekends and may require flexibility in working the day shift, based on operational needs.

Education And Experience

• Master's Degree in Nursing required
• Board certification as a Nurse Practitioner Competence required
• Licensure: Current registration as a Registered Professional Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in New York; Drug Enforcement Authority (DEA) registration, required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required
• Relevant clinical nursing practice in the care of the patient population served.
• 3 years of neonatal experience as an RN/NP preferred
