The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are seeking an experienced SACT Nurse Practitioner to advance into a senior role, working within SACT day units to develop staff in SACT administration. You will lead education and training, supporting new and existing staff to enhance knowledge in Oncology/Haematology.

The role is based across SACT Day units in Carlisle and Henderson Suite, West Cumberland Hospital with typical hours Monday–Friday 08:00–18:30.

Qualifications

Significant experience in Oncology and/or Haematology.
Current NMC registration.

Prepared to take degree level study.

Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced SACT Nurse to progress into a role of a Nurse Practitioner - Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT). This role is a senior position working clinically within SACT day units to support, educate and develop staff nurses within the role.

You will be expected to lead on education and training , supporting new staff and existing staff to enhance their knowledge within the speciality of Oncology/Haematology and more specifically in SACT administration.

The successful candidate will be expected to work between the SACT Day unit in NCCC- Carlisle and Henderson Suite, West Cumberland Hospital. Both units operate Monday-Friday 0800-1830.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a passion for Cancer Care and staff development.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role are to support and educate staff nurses within the department through regular direct clinical supervision and hands on clinical working to develop their competence in all clinical skills and SACT administration. Additionally, it is expected that you will lead on providing teaching and education sessions to the nursing team weekly.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust define a nurse practitioner as a qualified nurse where the primary purpose of role is to perform a specific technological procedure/s e.g., endoscopy, ultrasound in a defined patient group and/or advanced patient assessment and clinical decision making in a broad patient group.

Role

To ensure that the patient is the central focus of a streamlined patient journey ensuring optimal quality of care.
Will provide a prompt response to calls from colleagues, prioritising importance and clinical need.
Supports the clinical team to manage a defined caseload, activity to include assessment, investigation, diagnosis and treatment within defined protocols and training.
Provide immediate care management of patient including communication of plan to patients and significant others.
Review and refer to appropriate person, e.g., AHP, resident medical staff, specialist registrar or critical care outreach team.
Liaises with Patient Services Coordinator.
Communicate within multidisciplinary team, ward/departmental staff and/or out of hour’s team.
Contributes to specialist education and training to ward departmental staff, nursing and medical students.

Registered Nurse (appropriate to branch)
Current NMC registration
Diploma plus specialist qualifications / experience within specialist area; prepared to take degree level study
Meets Nursing and Midwifery Council standards for student supervision and assessment (formally Mentorship) if relevant to role
Recognised specialist qualification in SACT administration

Desirable criteria

Degree in health-related subject
Working towards or educated to Master’s level
Clinical Skills Course or willingness to undertake
Non-medical authoriser of blood products competence or willingness to undertake
Non-Medical prescribing if relevant to role
IRMER competence or willingness to undertake

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria

Some post registration experience within related specialist area of practice
Extended clinical practice underpinned by training and assessment e.g., venepuncture, cannulation skills and intravenous drug administration
Audit / research experience
Evidence of on-going continuous professional development
Knowledge and understanding of relevant NHS policy or project specific policy context
Has understanding / experience of adult / child safeguarding
