Position Summary:

The Advanced Practitioner-Psychiatric Mental Health NP will be responsible for providing medical services in collaboration with a licensed physician. Psychiatric Mental Health NPis a member of a treatment team, which may consist of staff with a variety of mental health, education, or medical backgrounds. The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner plans and delivers clinical services that include:

  • Document patients' medical and psychological histories, physical assessment results, diagnoses, treatment plans, prescriptions, or outcomes.
  • Evaluate patients' behavior to formulate diagnoses or assess treatments.
  • Analyze patient data to determine patient needs or treatment goals.
  • Write prescriptions for psychotropic medications as allowed by state regulations and collaborative practice agreements with experience and understanding of chemical dependency treatment.
  • Monitor patients' medication usage and results.
  • Monitor patient progress or responses to treatment.

The NP must practice in accordance with the rules adopted by the Ohio Board of Nursing, the Revised Code, and SBHI policies and procedures.

The Advanced Practitioner will document patient histories, perform physical examinations, order diagnostic tests, and perform existing patient assessments as needed. The Advance Practitioner will also implement treatment plans in coordination with the supervising physician and inform patients about the medical components of their treatment. The goal of this position is to be a key component of the integrated care team that provides high quality comprehensive care to each of our patients.

Responsibilities
  • Mentor and conduct professional development activities (e.g., in-service, training) in medical subjects relevant to the patient’s treatment
  • Participate in all trainings as required by federal, state, local and accrediting agencies
  • Develop and present training content for education on various medical topics relevant to substance use disorders and general good health practices when requested
  • Perform medical services within the scope of his/her education, training and expertise:
    • Obtain and prepare patient histories and perform physical examinations
    • Assess patient’s appropriateness for dosing, dose level adjustments, phase level adjustments, and changes to the patient’s treatment plan
    • Order or perform diagnostic procedures as delegated by the supervising physician
    • Assist in the development and implementation of a treatment plan in accordance with written clinical practice guidelines
    • Monitor the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions
    • Offer counseling and education to meet patient needs, especially in the medical areas of patient’s treatment
    • Coordinate care with ancillary healthcare providers and make referrals when appropriate
    • Review all laboratory results, as well as all medical documentation from other care providers
  • Ensure implementation of medical quality health standards for both patients and employees
  • Provide medical input into overall program philosophy, treatment services, and patient care when requested
  • Provide a response to emergency care providers when they require consultation for one of the program’s patients
  • Collaborate whenever necessary with other physicians, clinics or hospitals participating in the treatment of program patients
  • Attend weekly treatment team meetings, as well as outside seminars and training when approved by the Senior Medical Director
  • Hold a basic understanding of drug/alcohol abuse and addiction
    • Keep updated on current drug abuse and treatment information, especially current trends in Substance Use Disorders including Opioid Maintenance Treatment
  • Develop professional, helpful, and effective relationships with patients, team members, and constituents; re-engage patients as necessary
  • Ensure treatment center meets all accreditation standards related to Medical, Health, and Safety issues
  • Comply with all accrediting, federal, state, and local regulatory agency requirements
  • Assist in activities that are otherwise identified by members of the Senior Management team

Ohio Certified Nurse Practitioner

Psychiatric (Required)

D.E.A. licensure as required by BrightView

Required Work Experience:

1 to 3 years preferred, ideally with experience and understanding of substance use disorder treatment.

Note, this position is fully remote, and working hours may be set by the provider that works for both the provider and patient.
