Job summary

Harbor Health in El Paso, TX seeks a dedicated PRN Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to deliver comprehensive primary and episodic care on an as-needed basis.

You will perform exams, order tests, and develop treatment plans with supervising physicians while maintaining high standards of care and patient safety.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
  • Current state licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
  • Board certification by NCCPA or nursing certification body.
  • Current DEA registration with prescriptive authority.
  • Current BLS Certification.
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical experience in primary/urgent care or related setting.
  • Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills with sound judgment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive primary and episodic care services on a PRN basis.
  • Conduct physical exams, health assessments, and histories.
  • Diagnose conditions and develop evidence-based treatment plans with supervising physicians.
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate laboratory tests, procedures, and imaging.
  • Prescribe medications within scope and regulatory guidelines.
  • Perform clinical procedures appropriate to scope and expertise.
  • Counsel members and families regarding treatment plans and health promotion.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to ensure continuity of care.
  • Participate in care coordination and referrals when appropriate.
  • Document encounters accurately in the EHR.
  • Maintain compliance with clinical protocols and safety standards.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives and evidence-based practices.
  • Respond to member health concerns with appropriate follow-up.

Position Overview

Harbor Health is seeking a dedicated PRN Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our clinical team in El Paso, TX. In this role, you will deliver comprehensive, member-centered care on an as-needed basis while upholding our commitment to excellence in healthcare delivery. This position offers flexible scheduling — with availability for approximately 5 shifts per month — while maintaining high-quality clinical standards and collaborative care approaches. The Advanced Practice Provider delivers medical care within their scope of practice as delineated by the supervising physician, in alignment with our mission of transforming healthcare through our payvider model.

Position Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive primary and episodic care services to members on a PRN basis
  • Conduct thorough physical examinations, health assessments, and medical histories
  • Diagnose conditions and develop evidence-based treatment plans in collaboration with supervising physicians
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate laboratory tests, diagnostic procedures, and imaging studies
  • Prescribe medications and treatments within scope of practice and regulatory guidelines
  • Perform clinical procedures appropriate to scope of practice and provider expertise
  • Counsel members and families regarding treatment plans, medication management, and health promotion
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure continuity and quality of care
  • Participate in care coordination and referral processes when appropriate
  • Document all member encounters accurately and thoroughly in the electronic health record
  • Maintain compliance with all clinical protocols, safety standards, and organizational policies
  • Support quality improvement initiatives and evidence-based practice standards
  • Respond to member health concerns and provide appropriate follow-up care as needed
Required

DESIRED PROFESSIONAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program
  • Current state licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
  • Board certification by the appropriate national certifying body (NCCPA or nursing certification board)
  • Current DEA registration with prescriptive authority
  • Current BLS Certification
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical experience in primary care, urgent care, or a relevant specialty setting
  • Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills with sound clinical judgment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining collaborative relationships
  • Flexibility to work various shifts and adapt to changing clinical needs
Preferred
  • Experience in ambulatory care, urgent care, or emergency medicine settings
  • Proficiency with electronic medical record systems
  • Experience with value-based care delivery models
  • Knowledge of chronic disease management and preventive care protocols
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish
Physical Requirements
  • PRN scheduling with flexibility for approximately 5 shifts per month; 8-hour shifts with potential for shorter shifts as needed
  • Ability to work across multiple clinic sites
  • Ability to meet and maintain current organizational credentialing and privileging requirements
