Job summary

Harbor Health in Austin, TX is seeking a PRN Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our clinical team. The APP provides acute and urgent care services across our Express Care sites in Round Rock, North University and Onion Creek, with about 5 shifts per month and one Saturday per month at Round Rock Express Care.

The role emphasizes member-centered care, collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, and adherence to our payvider model.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
  • Current state licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state of Texas.
  • Board certification by the appropriate national certifying body (AANP, ANCC, NCCPA, or equivalent).
  • Current DEA registration with prescriptive authority.
  • Current BLS Certification.
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical experience in urgent care, emergency medicine, family medicine, or a related ambulatory care setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat members presenting with acute, urgent, and episodic medical conditions in an Express Care setting on a PRN basis.
  • Obtain comprehensive medical histories and perform thorough physical examinations.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests, laboratory results, and imaging as clinically appropriate.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in alignment with evidence-based clinical guidelines.
  • Prescribe medications and therapeutic interventions within scope of practice.
  • Educate members and their families on diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, and follow-up care.
  • Collaborate with the Harbor Health team to ensure referrals, care coordination, and continuity of care.
  • Document all encounters in the EHR system.
  • Adhere to regulatory, compliance, and credentialing requirements.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and clinical quality.

Position Duties & Responsibilities

  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, member safety, and clinical quality
  • Maintain flexibility to support clinic operations on a PRN basis as scheduling needs arise
Required

DESIRED PROFESSIONAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program
  • Current state licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state of Texas

  • Experience working with diverse member populations across age groups

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to build trust with members quickly
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team

Preferred
  • At least 2 years of experience in ambulatory care, urgent care, or emergency medicine settings as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant

Work Environment
  • PRN scheduling with flexibility for 5 shifts per month — one Saturday per month is required
