Description
The NICU Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Nurse performs the role utilizing the patient-centered coordinated care model demonstrated through the following competencies: leadership, direct clinical practice, consultation/collaboration, coaching/guiding, research, and ethical decision making. Works collaboratively with other members of the practice/hospital team to assess, plan and implement care for individuals with health and safety needs.
Proficient in newborn resuscitation, intubation and stabilization, umbilical lines, PIV, arterial blood draw, ventilation management, needle aspiration and chest tubes, spinal tap, interpretation of x-rays, and appropriate and efficient use of consultants.

Responsibilities
- Provides medical assessments, treatments, and clearances for HMH applicants, team members, constituents, and external customers per specific company profiles & or regulatory standards.
- Performs clinical care professionally, serving as a customer advocate and role model.
- Develops and implements appropriate plan of care.
- Facilitates patient teaching and support programs for patients and employers.
- Evaluates current protocols and standards of care for translation of best practice into clinical practice.
- Supports the development of evidence-based practice protocols and standards of care.
- Applies evidence and value-based practices to achieve positive outcomes for patients.
- Provides medication safely and effectively to promote recovery from on-the-job injury/illness.
- Prescribes medications and/or recommends over-the-counter medications as appropriate.
- Initiates laboratory tests, immunizations, and diagnostic tests/procedures as appropriate.
- Collaborates with physicians and consults effectively with other healthcare team members.
- Demonstrates effective communication skills interdisciplinary to achieve results.
- Provides accurate, organized documentation of findings, recommendations, and education.
- Participates in continuing education and maintains documentation.
- Provides culturally appropriate education related to patient care/needs.
- Serves as a clinical resource to nursing staff, patients, and other team members.
- Participates in policy/procedure reviews and updates.
- Acts as a resource for clinical, process, and system improvements.
- Promotes a collaborative work environment.
- Seeks opportunities to bring new clinical knowledge into practice.
- Identifies ethical care issues and coordinates interdisciplinary meetings to resolve them.
- Floats to various clinic locations as needed.
- Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
- Adheres to HMH organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Graduate of an NLN/AACN accredited program in nursing.
- Master’s Degree.
- Maintains clinical competencies through continuing education and clinical practice as mandated.
- Experience in relevant patient care setting or as regulations dictate.
Preferred:
- Master’s Prepared Advanced Practice Nurse.
- Minimum of 3 years professional experience.
- Strong organizational and computer skills.
- Effective communication skills.
- Emotional intelligence, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Valid Driver’s license.
Licenses and Certifications
- NJ State Professional Registered Nurse License.
- Advanced Practice Nurse Certification (with Master’s Degree).
- AHA Basic Healthcare Life Support (BLS) Certification.
For Physician Assistant:
- Successful completion of an accredited physician's assistant program.
- Physician Assistant License.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) Certification.

Compensation & Benefits
Starting at $117,395.20 annually. Benefits include health, dental, vision, paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and retirement options.
