The nurse practitioner/physician assistant provides comprehensive direct patient care and scholarly practice, including obtaining patient histories, performing physical exams, ordering diagnostic tests, diagnosing illnesses, prescribing treatments, and promoting health through education and counseling. The NP also supports indirect care responsibilities such as staff and student education, clinical research, program development, and quality improvement.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
Education: Completion of a Nurse Practitioner Master's of Science in Nursing or graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program, with successful certification or licensing.
Licensing and Certification: Current registration with the Alabama Board of Nursing and Board of Medical Examiners or an active Alabama PA license. Approval from the Huntsville Hospital credentialing board. BLS certification required by the end of orientation.
Experience: At least 3 years of full-time ER or Critical Care RN and/or CRNP experience recommended.
Skills and Abilities: Excellent communication skills, ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, and knowledge of necessary equipment and procedures. Certifications like BLS, ACLS, TNCC, and PALS must be obtained within specified timeframes and maintained current. Department-specific competencies must be completed during the provisional period.
