Job Summary
We are excited to announce an opportunity for an Advanced Practice Provider to join our Duke Neurological Sleep Clinic , serving both Durham and Cary, North Carolina . In this role, you will:
- Collaborate with attending physicians to provide comprehensive care.
- Collect and document patient data accurately.
- Conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
- Order and schedule laboratory studies and professional consultations.
- Provide direct patient care services to individuals with sleep disorders.
The primary hours for this position are Monday through Friday, during the day shift, with flexibility to meet the needs of our patients.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Patient Care : Take patient histories, conduct physical examinations, and record data in the patient's record. Write progress notes, prepare patient workups and summaries, noting pertinent positive and negative findings. Obtain psychosocial history relevant to patient care and develop therapeutic relationships with patients.
- Diagnostic Procedures : Order and schedule laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures. Explain the necessity, preparation, nature, and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient.
- Patient Monitoring : Monitor patient progress, report to the supervising physician, and maintain records of each patient's progress. Consult with the supervising physician when a patient's progress does not meet anticipated criteria.
- Therapeutic Procedures : Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to assist the physician in diagnosing sleep disorders and prescribing necessary treatments. Record normal and abnormal data for review by the physician.
- Teaching : Participate in teaching students and residents techniques and procedures unique to the specific clinical setting.
- Clinical Trials : Participate in clinical trial subject recruitment, enrollment, and study.
Job Eligibility Requirements
Education
- Nurse Practitioners: Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing.
- Physician Assistants: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.
Certification
License
- Nurse Practitioners: Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required. National certification as a NP required prior to or within 6 months of employment.
- Physician Assistants: Must be licensed in the state of NC, and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
- DEA licensure required.
Experience
- 1+ years of neurology experience strongly preferred.
- Experience in sleep subspecialty field preferred.
