Job Location: Duke Gastroenterology North Durham Clinic, 4220 N Roxboro St, Durham, NC

Job Summary:

We are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider in our Duke Gastroenterology North Durham Clinic located in Durham, NC to provide medical care to adult patients with gastrointestinal conditions in a general GI inpatient and outpatient clinic. Primary hours will be Monday through Friday, day shift, with hours flexible to meet the needs of the patients.

Duties may include but are not limited to those listed below and may include other outpatient procedures or services as deemed appropriate by the supervising physician. It is anticipated that the APP will see patients at Duke Gastroenterology North Durham and may also see patients at other Durham locations depending on Division needs and clinic availability. Coverage of inpatient GI consult service will occur one week every 4-6 weeks or more often as needed.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

• Record the history of present illness, past medical, family and social history, perform physical examinations in inpatient and outpatient setting.
• Establish and develop treatment plans; care will be provided in conjunction with MDs as needed.
• Prescribe appropriate medications to a specialty pharmacy that will handle prior authorization and other necessary paperwork; order refills as needed.
• Patient and family teaching.
• Order appropriate labs, tests and procedures and follow up with patients as needed.
• Perform hemorrhoid banding.
• Coordinate care and refer to other medical professionals as needed.
• Document clinic, telephone, and other patient encounters in the Epic (Maestro) system.
• Review lab results in Maestro, communicate and interpret results.
• Collaborate with HUB Triage Nurses regarding patient triage and return patients calls within 24-48 hours; provide feedback regarding scheduling of urgent patient appointments.
• Review outside records including clinic notes, hospital records, outside radiographs, lab, and other test results.
• Collaborate with nursing staff to complete patient paperwork including medication pre-certifications for insurance companies, durable medical equipment requests, disability paperwork, and handicapped permit applications.
• Attendance at GI Grand Rounds is expected. Participation in other divisional educational events is also encouraged.

Job Eligibility Requirements:

Education:

• Nurse Practitioners: Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing.
• Physician Assistants: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.

Certification:

• BLS required.

License:

• Nurse Practitioners: Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required. National certification as a NP required prior to or within 6 months of employment.
• Physician Assistants: Must be licensed in the state of NC, and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.

Experience:

• 1+ years of gastroenterology APP experience preferred.

Job Hours: Monday-Friday, day shift, with flexibility to meet clinic needs.
