Duke Cardiology Clinic- Duke South 2F/2G with potential coverage at the Duke Cardiology Clinic at Arringdon, the Duke Cardiology Clinic in South Durham, and the Duke Cardiology Clinic in Raleigh

Job Summary

Duke Health Integrated Practice/ Division of Cardiology, Section of Electrophysiology is recruiting a Full Time Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) to join our team in the management of adult patients with cardiac arrhythmias. The APP will see patients in the outpatient setting at our Duke South 2F/2G location (with possible coverage in other locations as above).

Primary hours will be Monday through Friday, day shift, with hours flexible to meet the needs of the patients.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assess, diagnose and treat: Independently take patient histories, conduct physical examinations, and record data in patient’s record; write progress notes; prepare patient workups and summaries noting pertinent positive and negative findings; obtain psychosocial history relevant to patient care, and assume responsibility for developing therapeutic relationships with patients. Prescribe medications within scope of practice.
  • Order and schedule laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures; explain necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient
  • Review laboratory data and diagnostic testing, communicate and interpret results to patients
  • Perform medical decision-making- create a plan of care for the patient
  • Collaborate with Heart Center Communications or Duke Raleigh Cardiology to triage urgent calls
  • Collaborate with other NP/PAs to ensure clinic and telephone coverage
  • Pacemaker and defibrillator interrogation, evaluation and appropriate programming with appropriate documentation.
  • Antiarrhythmic drug monitoring
  • Pre and post procedure in office education and care
  • Bill for services rendered.
  • Develop and follow a collaborative practice agreement with assigned Supervising Physician.
  • Provide appropriate in basket coverage including responding to patient messages, pharmacy refills, etc.

Job Eligibility Requirements

Education

  • Nurse Practitioners: Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing.
  • Physician Assistants: Work requires completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.

Certification

  • ACLS prior to or within 3 months of employment
  • National certification as a NP or PA
  • BLS required.

License

  • Nurse Practitioners: Must have current or compact RN licensure & NP approval to practice in the state of North Carolina. BLS required. National certification as a NP required.
  • Physician Assistants: Must be licensed in the state of NC, and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. BLS required.
  • DEA license required.

Experience

  • 1+ years of Cardiology APP experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience caring for patients with complex cardiac arrhythmias including management of pacemakers and defibrillators.
