Job summary

University of Cincinnati is seeking a full-time Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to support the Radiology Department’s interventional services. The role involves patient care before, during, and after IR procedures at West Chester Hospital, University of Cincinnati Medical Center, and other sites, with a schedule Monday through Friday, 7:00 am – 5:00 pm.

Job Overview

Radiology Department is accepting applications forfull-time Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner orPhysician Assistant) who will work with a designated supervisor toassist in providing comprehensive, continuous, and personalizedcare to patients in various areas of interventionalradiology.

This position will work at various locations include WestChester Hospital (WCH), University of Cincinnati Medical Center(UCMC) and other sites on a work schedule from Monday throughFriday, 7:00 am – 5:00 pm

Essential Functions
  • Understand the indications, alternatives, risks and steps of IRprocedures in order to provide this information to patients, familymembers, referring physicians, physician offices and otherhealthcare providers
  • Perform history and physical examinations prior to IRprocedures performed by providers in the Department ofRadiology.
  • Perform informed consent for IR procedures for outpatient andinpatients
  • Perform pre-procedure and post-procedure IR orders
  • Perform admitting history and physical and discharge and writeorders for inpatients admitted to the IR service
  • Provide medication reconciliation, prescribing and dischargefor patients undergoing outpatients IR procedures
  • Make rounds on inpatients following IR procedures and otherpatients as scheduled
  • Answer telephone calls from patients regarding IRprocedures
  • Perform evaluation of new inpatient and outpatient IR procedurerequests/consultations and review with IR physicians
  • Evaluate and coordinate outpatient and inpatient IR procedurerequests and address peri-procedural medical and scheduling issues.Communicate with requesting providers, IR physicians, IRtechnologist coordinator, and IR scheduler during the workday. InIR cases involving complex interactions between other services(e.g., Anesthesia, Gastroenterology, and Transplant Surgery)facilitate communication and coordination of activities.
  • Perform follow up outpatient visits on patients who havepreviously undergone IR procedures.
  • Become knowledgeable in Epic in regard to IR, such as the useof the Status Board and assisting rotating IR resident physiciansin onboarding to our workflow.
  • Participate in IR section quality safety program (biopsyfollow-up, Morbidity & Mortality maintenance)
  • Attend monthly IR Morbidity & Mortality Conferences,prepare/submit material as directed
  • Assist the IR physician in a fluoroscopic procedure, asneeded
  • Possible coverage of weekends for rounding andconsultations.
  • Coverage of IR clinic/outpatient setting.

Perform the following procedures with image guidance suchas:

  • Paracentesis
  • Thoracentesis
  • Abscessogram/drainage catheter study
  • Gastrostomy tube exchange
  • Non-tunneled and tunneled central venous catheterplacement
  • Catheter removals
Nurse Practitioner
  • Master’s degree from accredited nursingprogram
  • Active Ohio APRN license with prescriptive authority ANDactive Board Certification in appropriate nursingspecialty
  • Three (3) years nursing experience
Physician Assistant
  • Master’s degree from accredited physician assistantprogram
  • Active Ohio Physician Assistant license with prescriptiveauthority AND certification by the National Commission onCertification of Physician Assistants
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience isrequired.
Additional Qualifications Considered
  • Experience in Interventional Radiology, includinginterventional spine procedures
  • Experience in Epic electronic health recordsystem
