Position Overview

The Cleveland Clinic's Cancer Institute is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner (Adult, Family, or Acute Care Certified) for a PRN Inpatient Consult position in Hematology/Oncology. The role requires coverage for at least one weekend (Saturday & Sunday) every 6 weeks. Previous oncology experience is preferred but not mandatory; new graduates are not eligible.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough medical histories and physical examinations; initiate lab, radiology, and other tests; analyze data to establish health status and develop treatment plans.
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians and healthcare team members.
  • Perform and interpret diagnostic procedures, including routine and specialized procedures such as biopsies, bone marrow aspirations, and thoracentesis.
  • Prescribe and monitor medications within the scope of practice.
  • Educate patients about their conditions, treatments, and preventive health measures.
  • Participate in rounds, discharge planning, quality monitoring, and research follow-up studies.
  • Assist in data analysis and serve as a clinical preceptor or faculty as needed.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited ARPN or Physician Assistant program.
  • Current state licensure and national certification (APRN: RN and APRN licensure; PA: NCCPA certification).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required; ACLS/PALS may be required based on setting.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant clinical experience preferred.
Work Environment & Requirements
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, and some off-shift hours.
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods, perform procedures, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Adherence to safety protocols and use of personal protective equipment.
