Job summary

VitalCore Health Strategies seeks a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for the 12 hour night shift at Women's Huron Valley Correctional Facility in Ypsilanti, Michigan. The role covers ambulatory care within a correctional environment and involves collaboration with healthcare professionals and security staff.

The candidate will respond to emergencies, diagnose, treat under physician supervision, educate patients and staff, and ensure compliance with safety and infection control

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited NP/PA program.
• Must possess current licenses or certifications in the state of employment.
• Experience in correctional health care is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Respond to and initiate care for medical emergencies within the facility.
• Identify health problems and prescribe treatment under physician direction.
• Educate inmates, healthcare staff, and correctional staff.
• Document all healthcare contacts and adhere to safety policies.
• Supervise other team members when appropriate.

NURSE PRACTITIONER / PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT POSITION SUMMARY

The Nurse Practitioner utilizes the medical model to meet a variety of healthcare needs with ambulatory care as their primary focus in a correctional environment. The Physician's Assistant works with a variety of healthcare professionals/security officers in a correctional environment to provide basic medical services supervised by a licensed Physician.

NURSE PRACTITIONER / PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Responds to and initiates care for medical emergencies throughout the facility.
• Identifies patient health problems and prescribes treatment under the direction of a physician.
• Implements medical care utilizing therapeutic regimens approved by a Physician.
• Provides education to inmate/patient, healthcare staff, and correctional staff.
• Documents all healthcare contacts.
• Adheres to safety and security policies and participates in disaster drills.
• Follows security regulations for keys, sharps, and controlled medications.
• Delegates to and supervises other team members as appropriate.
• Adheres to Universal Precautions and other appropriate infection control practices.
• Attends training and meetings as required.

NURSE PRACTITIONER / PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Graduate of an accredited college/university NP / PA program
• Must possess current licenses or certifications in the state of employment
• Experience in Correctional desired but not required
• Maintains required annual licensure and credentialing requirements for physician assistants / Nurse Practitioner in the healthcare unit.
