Job summary

VitalCore Health Strategies seeks a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for a 12‑hour night shift at Woodland Correctional Center in Whitmore Lake, Michigan. This role supports ambulatory care in a correctional environment, working with a team of healthcare professionals and security staff to deliver essential medical services.

The position requires NP/PA program graduation and state licensure; correctional experience is desirable but not required.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited NP/PA program.
• Must hold current licenses or credentials in the state of employment.
• Experience in correctional health care is desirable but not required.

Responsibilities

• Respond to and initiate care for medical emergencies throughout the facility.
• Identify patient health problems and prescribe treatment under physician supervision.
• Implement medical care utilizing prescribed regimens.
• Provide education to inmates, healthcare staff, and correctional staff.
• Document all healthcare contacts.
• Adhere to safety and security policies and participate in disaster drills.
• Follow security regulations for keys, sharps, and controlled medications.
• Delegate to and supervise other team members as appropriate.
• Adhere to Universal Precautions and infection control practices.
• Attend training and meetings as required.

Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant Position Summary

The Nurse Practitioner utilizes the medical model to meet a variety of healthcare needs with ambulatory care as their primary focus in a correctional environment. The Physician’s Assistant works with a variety of healthcare professionals/security officers in a correctional environment to provide basic medical services supervised by a licensed Physician.

Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant Essential Functions

• Responds to and initiates care for medical emergencies throughout the facility.
• Identifies patient health problems and prescribes treatment under the direction of a physician.
• Implements medical care utilizing therapeutic regimens approved by a Physician.
• Provides education to inmate/patient, healthcare staff, and correctional staff.
• Documents all healthcare contacts.
• Adheres to safety and security policies and participates in disaster drills.
• Follows security regulations for keys, sharps, and controlled medications.
• Delegates to and supervises other team members as appropriate.
• Adheres to Universal Precautions and other appropriate infection control practices.
• Attends training and meetings as required.

Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant Minimum Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited college/university NP / PA program
• Must possess current licenses or certifications in the state of employment
• Experience in Correctional desired but not required
• Maintains required annual licensure and credentialing requirements for physician assistants / Nurse Practitioner in the healthcare unit.
