Job summary

VitalCore Health Strategies is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for a 12-hour night shift at Lakeland Correctional Facility in Coldwater, Michigan. The role involves ambulatory care within a correctional environment, with duties including responding to emergencies, prescribing under physician supervision, and educating staff and inmates.

This position requires NP/PA certification with current state licenses; correctional experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited NP/PA program.
• Must possess current licenses or certifications in the state of employment.
• Experience in Correctional care desired but not required.
• Maintains required annual licensure and credentialing requirements for physician assistants / Nurse Practitioner in the healthcare unit.

Responsibilities

• Responds to and initiates care for medical emergencies throughout the facility.
• Prescribes treatment under the direction of a physician.
• Implements medical care utilizing therapeutic regimens approved by a Physician.
• Provides education to inmate/patient, healthcare staff, and correctional staff.
• Documents all healthcare contacts.

NURSE PRACTITIONER / PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT

SUMMARY

The Nurse Practitioner utilizes the medical model to meet a variety of healthcare needs with ambulatory care as their primary focus in a correctional environment. The Physician’s Assistant works with a variety of healthcare professionals/security officers in a correctional environment to provide basic medical services supervised by a licensed Physician.

NURSE PRACTITIONER / PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Responds to and initiates care for medical emergencies throughout the facility. Identifies patient health problems and prescribes treatment under the direction of a physician. Implements medical care utilizing therapeutic regimens approved by a Physician. Provides education to inmate/patient, healthcare staff, and correctional staff. Documents all healthcare contacts. Adheres to safety and security policies and participates in disaster drills. Follows security regulations for keys, sharps, and controlled medications. Delegates to and supervises other team members as appropriate. Adheres to Universal Precautions and other appropriate infection control practices. Attends training and meetings as required.

NURSE PRACTITIONER / PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Graduate of an accredited college/university NP / PA programMust possess current licenses or certifications in the state of employmentExperience in Correctional desired but not requiredMaintains required annual licensure and credentialing requirements for physician assistants / Nurse Practitioner in the healthcare unit.
