Job description

Position

Part‑time Nurse Practitioner (NP) / Physician Assistant (PA) in Riverton, WY, providing comprehensive health care to incarcerated individuals at the Wyoming Honor Farm.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct physical examinations, develop treatment plans and monitor patients.
  • Manage acute and chronic conditions such as asthma, hypertension, and diabetes.
  • Administer medications and give instructions to patients.
  • Monitor and document patient health, including vital signs and medical histories.
  • Provide direct patient care, triage, assess needs, develop care plans, and coordinate services.
  • Respond to medical emergencies, provide first aid, and ensure timely transport to appropriate healthcare facilities.
  • Educate patients on preventative care, healthy lifestyle choices, and substance abuse prevention.
  • Adhere to correctional facility security protocols while working closely with correctional officers and other healthcare professionals to ensure patient safety.
  • Maintain accurate medical records, document treatment plans, and report relevant information.
  • Conduct rounds and evaluate patients returning from off‑site treatment.
  • Admit and discharge patients from the facility.
Qualifications
  • Advanced nursing education (Master's or Doctorate).
  • Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Unrestricted license as a Nurse Practitioner in WY.
  • Current DEA registration.
  • Collaborative agreement with the on‑site Physician.
  • Active BLS/CPR Certification (AHA preferred).
  • Board certification in a specialty recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties.
  • Strong organizational skills to track patient treatment plans and progress notes.
  • Knowledge of nursing practice principles, occupational health and safety, infectious disease management, and applicable health‑care laws, regulations, and procedures.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience working in a correctional facility or acute care center is a plus.
  • Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues.
  • Commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and compliance with all facility correctional‑healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
  • Successful completion of the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening.
Physical Capabilities

Must be able to stand for long periods, lift and move patients up to 50 pounds, bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks such as CPR while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.
