Job summary

Mediko is seeking a registered nurse to join our York, PA facility. You will provide direct patient care, perform screenings, and coordinate with medical and mental health teams to deliver high-quality care to inmates.

The role requires an active RN license and 1–3 years in healthcare, ideally in a correctional setting. Night and weekend shifts may apply, with a comprehensive benefits package and opportunities for professional growth.

Qualifications

• Current valid RN license in applicable state.
• Associate or bachelor's degree in Healthcare/Nursing preferred but not required.
• 1–3 years of healthcare experience, preferably correctional healthcare.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care per policies.
• Perform initial medical screenings and ongoing healthcare during inmate incarceration.
• Conduct comprehensive physical assessments and history reviews to guide care.
• Administer prescribed medications and interventions per physician orders.
• Coordinate with physicians and mental health professionals for complex cases.
• Respond to medical emergencies and trauma with timely interventions.
• Document assessments, treatments, and progress in EMR per policies and legal requirements.
• Maintain compliance with healthcare regulations and facility policies.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and regulatory reporting.
• Lead nursing staff in absence of management and supervise LPNs/assistants.

How YOU can Make an Impact:

• Provide direct patient care by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care plans according to established policies and procedures.
• Conduct initial medical screenings and assessments for all incoming inmates and provide ongoing healthcare as needed throughout their incarceration.
• Perform comprehensive physical assessments and history reviews to determine patient health status and prioritize care needs.
• Administer prescribed medications, treatments, and medical interventions in compliance with physician orders and healthcare protocols.
• Provide care for patients with chronic conditions, acute illnesses, and mental health issues, coordinating with other healthcare providers as necessary.
• Respond to and manage medical emergencies, including trauma and medical crises, ensuring timely and appropriate interventions.
• Accurately document patient assessments, treatments, and progress in the electronic medical record (EMR) in accordance with facility policies and legal requirements.
• Maintain compliance with all state, federal, and local healthcare regulations, as well as facility-specific policies.
• Ensure proper documentation and reporting of medical treatments, interventions, and patient outcomes, including maintaining detailed medical records for audits and compliance reviews.
• Participate in the collection and submission of patient data for quality improvement initiatives and regulatory reporting.
• Work closely with interdisciplinary healthcare teams, including physicians, mental health professionals, and correctional officers, to provide comprehensive care to inmates.
• Collaborate with facility leadership and healthcare providers to address and resolve patient care issues and improve health outcomes.
• Communicate effectively with patients, their families (as needed), and correctional facility staff regarding treatment plans, health education, and health-related concerns.
• Provide education to inmates on health management, disease prevention, and post-care instructions.
• Serve as a clinical resource and mentor to other nursing staff, providing guidance and support on clinical practices, protocols, and emergency response procedures.
• Assume leadership roles in the absence of higher-level management, including overseeing day-to-day operations of the nursing team and ensuring proper patient care delivery.
• Supervise and assist LPNs and nursing assistants in patient care tasks, ensuring compliance with healthcare standards and best practices.
• Ensure medical equipment and supplies are appropriately stocked, maintained, and functioning properly; report any issues to facility management.
• Assist with maintaining a clean and safe clinical environment that meets infection control and safety standards.
• Participate in ongoing quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and clinical outcomes within the facility.
• Follow established policies and procedures, including those related to infection control, safety protocols, and medication administration.
• Contribute to the development and review of healthcare policies and clinical procedures to ensure they remain in line with current practices and regulations.
• Work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to meet the facility’s healthcare needs.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

What we Ask of YOU:

• A current, valid state(s) licensure, certificate and/or credentials documenting the ability to practice as an RN
• A High School diploma or GED is required.
• An Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in Healthcare, Nursing, or a related field is preferred but not required.
• 1-3 years of experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in a correctional healthcare or similar environment.
• Experience in roles that involve direct patient care or administrative support in a regulated environment is preferred.
• Strong understanding of healthcare regulations, policies, and procedures as they relate to the correctional setting is an advantage.
• Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively, adhere to protocols, and deliver high-quality service in a fast-paced, structured environment.
• Active CPR/BLS certificate required (American Heart Association/American Red Cross guideline approved).
