Job description

Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - Complex Care Services

Department Summary
Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to function in the inpatient Complex Care Service (CCS) at Boston Children’s Hospital. CCS is a long-standing and nationally-regarded inpatient service in Pediatric Hospital Medicine within the Division of General Pediatrics that serves hospitalized children with medical complexity, who have complex chronic conditions and functional limitations. Common reasons for admission to CCS include infections (aspiration pneumonia, pyelonephritis), chronic condition exacerbations (epilepsy, digestive dysmotility), and post-operative recovery following surgery (baclofen pump placement, gastrostomy, spinal fusion, etc.). This role will provide patient evaluation, assessment, and facilitate care for the patients on the CCS service, and will implement interventions tailored to improve systems for patient care and enhance patient safety for this population. The CCS NP/PA will work collaboratively with supervising physicians, pediatric trainees (residents and fellows), and the entire nursing team to promote optimal clinical care. This NP/PA will act as a clinical resource, facilitating staff educational opportunities. The setting is fast-paced and collaborative with many opportunities for learning. Requirements include completion of a master’s degree program in Nursing or Physician Assistant Studies. Clinical experience with children with medical complexity is preferred.

Key Responsibilities
• Evaluate, assess, and facilitate care for medical and surgical patients with medical complexity admitted to the Complex Care Service.
• Help implement interventions to improve care systems and enhance patient safety.
• Collaborate with supervising physicians and the nursing/medical team to promote optimal care.
• Act as a clinical resource and facilitate staff educational opportunities.
• Participate in learning, quality improvement, and/or research initiatives.
• 34-hours/week position with 50% day/night rotation and every 3rd weekend; 12-hour shifts.

Minimal Qualifications

Education
• Master of Science in Nursing or Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies.

Experience
• 1+ year of pediatric NP/PA experience preferred.
• Experience with children with medical complexity preferred.
• New graduate NP or PA may be considered with 2+ years of recent pediatric inpatient RN experience or strong inpatient pediatric clinical rotations.

Licensure/Certifications
• Current MA NP or PA license with PNP or FNP certification

Sign-on bonus of $4,250.00 (for people who have not worked at BCH in the past 2 years.)
